Chapter 16
Just to clear it up: this chapter is situated directly after chapter 15, where Spencer and Zack became ‘acquaintances’ after Jess realised she was in love with Spencer. Nothing else in Ruining Us happened, apart from Eddie and Danny getting together. Because I love slash ;) This IS the end, unless people want a steamy scene that I wrote months ago. I hope you enjoy :)
A year later
{~Jess POV~}
I turned the brown envelope over repetitively in my hands, staring at it like it was going to eat me. The address on the front, printed out onto a sticker, spun in a black and white blur as I twisted it in my grip, heart beating nervously. I glanced up into an amused pair of chocolate eyes, and frowned as full lips twisted into a smile.
“Go on, Jess, you’re killing yourself with suspense. Just open the damned letter,” Spencer rolled his eyes and I huffed, finally stopping fumbling with the envelope, and ripped it open, taking a deep breath in suspense. I saw my long-term boyfriend roll his eyes at me again, and gave him the finger as I unfolded the letter inside. Two sheets of paper were stapled together, and my somewhat trembling hands gripped them as I began to read.
Dear Jessica Johnson,
We are pleased to announce that your exam results for Summer 2012 have arrived, and are attached to the back of this letter....
I didn’t read any more of the stupid headmaster’s speech, and folded the first sheet of paper to the back, and my eyes drank in the series of letters on the back page.

A delighted squeal erupted from my mouth and I launched myself across my sofa onto Spencer, who laughed as he wrapped me in his firm arms, hugging me close as I laughed in relief, tears of happiness welling in my eyes.
“Told you,” he sang, and I hit him playfully.
“Shut it, Richmond,” I replied, pulling away to kiss his lips softly and stare into his eyes, smiles on both our faces. I could still see the hurt, just a layer away, threatening to expose his helplessness as his own mother had passed away a few weeks ago, but for the most part, he was trying to roll with it. He knew it was going to happen, they all did. But Spencer had me, and Eddie had Danny, and Mr Richmond...I was sure he was going to be okay.
“So,” I said conversationally, standing up from the sofa and dragging him with me. “I need to tell Zack the news otherwise he’ll have my head for keeping him in suspense,” Spencer snorted.
“If he took your head, I’d take his ears, his fingernails, his toes, his eyes, his balls and then his head.” He muttered and I laughed, shaking my head at him.
“Come on, Pervert,” I grinned and he huffed as I used the nickname Nina, Steph and I had come up for him, even now, eighteen months after he was over that. I led him upstairs to my room, walking past Danny’s room as I did, rolling my eyes as he catcalled at me, ignoring his jibes as Spencer retaliated with a ‘just because you like it up the butt!’ and I had to drag him away before Danny started beating him.
I set up Skype just as Spencer decided to launch a tickle attack on me, and I squealed and tried to kick him off me just as Zack accepted the call. Practically dying on the floor with Spencer leaning over me, I cried out for him to wait a second before kicking Spencer firmly where the sun didn’t shine, making him howl and drop to the floor. Recovering, I sat back on the bed and smoothed out my hair, meeting Zack’s raised eyebrow with a grin.
