Chapter 23: The departing, and the departed
Jamie giggled, wrapping her arms round my waist, leaning into my chest. The beat of the music pounded through my body and made me chest feel all funny. My eyes were constantly glued on Amelia, making absolute sure she was in my eyesight at all times. You never know what creeps might come to a party.
Then as I finished the drink in my hand, I sighed. I needed to pee. Running a hand through my hair, I turned to Jamie.
“Hey, Jay,” I said, and she looked up, her hazel eyes twinkling in happiness. “I gotta piss, please, please look after Amelia and make sure nothing happens to her?”
“Of course!” she replied. I leaned down to kiss her gently, casting one look back at my sister, one year my junior, who was dancing happily with some other girl from her school. Once Jamie had settled her gaze on her, I turned and went to go and find the bathroom.
The house was huge and I fully expected myself to get lost, so it was no surprise when I did. There were people everywhere; those stereotypical parties with every other person you saw making out with someone else. I tried to open a few doors but they were locked, so I sighed, eventually finding one that was open, but it was a bedroom.
Tempting to piss on the pillow but...that would be mean. So I kept on searching and FINALLY found one. It had puke in the toilet so I flushed it first then did my stuff, washed my hands and exited. Now, if only I’d had a bit of string or whatever. I couldn’t find my way back. I stumbled across the kitchen and remembered it was round the back, whereas I had been round the front, so I went out of the door and round the side of the house.
When I found my friends, I realised Jamie wasn’t there. I looked around briefly and I couldn’t see her...or Amelia. My heart started slowly beating faster as I scanned the crowd desperately. I tapped one of my friends on the shoulder.
“Yeah dude?”
“Where did Jamie go?”
“Oh she went to talk to Amelia, then they went over where it’s less crowded,” he gestured to the right, so I thanked him and began fighting the people to get through. They weren’t there, and I started to panic. I quickly texted both Jamie and Amelia, where are you??? And searched the crowd frantically.
I pushed and shoved my way past everyone, but I couldn’t find them. I began to ask people if they’d seen two girls, blonde, one looking a bit like me go past but people hadn’t seen them. Tears were beginning to burn my eyes. For fuck’s sake! Why couldn’t they stay there until I came back?!
It had been ten minutes, I was asking everyone I could, who wasn’t sucking someone’s face off or collapsed drunk. No one had seen them...and they hadn’t texted back. I knew Jamie at least kept her phone on vibrate in her pocket, she’d feel it, right?
My heart was racing and tears were starting to fall. Where the hell were they? Had someone...drugged them? Taken them away? I brushed away the tears as I asked someone else.
“Yeah!” said the dude, and I widened my eyes hopefully. “They went that way, round the side,” he gestured to the other side of the house and I thanked him profusely, beginning to jog through the people, managing to stop crying. Why had they gone this way?!
It was virtually empty around here, but it smelled like sick and...weed. The stench made me gag and I held my sleeve up to my nose, standing some way away from the ten or so people gathered around a fold up table. Some were sitting on the floor with joints and some...some had needles. Some were kneeling in front of the table with their faces right against it – crack, right.
