.:Recap:.

But as we started walking home, a thought occurred to me. Despite the fact Maria gave me relief and closure, I felt incredibly guilty for being 'with' her. And I started to wonder if my feelings for Jess would ever go away...

.:Story Start:.

{~Jess POV~}

It was still baking hot when we got home. It wasn't even cool inside the house, where I flopped onto my bed almost immediately after getting changed. My mind wandered back to the beach, thinking about Maria and Spencer together. Jealousy rose up inside me and I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down. Spencer can be with who he likes. I have Zack anyway.

Sighing, I stood up and threw the balcony doors wide open, virtually melting in the heat. It had to be at least thirty five out there. If not forty. I was parched so I went downstairs to get some water, where Mr Richmond preparing lunch.

"Do you need some help?" I asked, gulping down my glass of water. He smiled.

"No, but I think Spencer wanted to talk to you," he said with a wink, and I frowned before going to find him.

I searched all over the house but I couldn't find him. But then as I began my second lap of the house, I suddenly realised that the large windows at the back of the living room were in fact a door, leading to a back garden. I decided Spencer must be out there.

Sliding open the door, I looked around me. A few palm trees were scattered around, as well as some flower beds and vegetable patches. The grass was neatly kempt, and I was delighted to see a swimming pool behind a copse of trees. It was quite small, but looked inviting. I decided I'd check it out later on, after I'd spoken to Spencer.

Speaking of whom; where was he?

I roamed around the garden, rather slowly as I enjoyed feeling the soft grass beneath my bare feet and looked at all the brightly coloured flowers. It was a truly beautiful garden. Then I spotted a familiar figure standing the other side of the trees, leaning against the chest-height wall that lined the garden. He was staring out into the hills.

"Spencer," I said quietly as I approached. He looked around, seeming surprised, then smiled as he saw it was me. I wanted to tell him to forget about Maria and never go near her again, but that was greedy. He was probably keeping her around for the same reason he had before.

"Hey," he said softly, looking back out at the sloping hills.

"Your dad said you wanted me," I said, pulling myself up so I was sitting on the wall. Spencer looked up at me, and then down into the steep, long dip between the hills.

"Don't fall off," he said anxiously, frowning at the long drop. I smiled a little.

"Don't worry, I won't," I reassured him, not glancing down. I knew I would only be scared by the fall. "So why do you want me?" I added, swinging my legs slightly. He bit his bottom lip, making him look rather adorable.

"Er, doesn't matter now," he said hastily, and his cheeks turned a little pink. I smiled.

"You're blushing," I sang, swinging my legs. He scowled and muttered something while I continued to swing my legs and smile triumphantly. "C'mon, you can tell me," I said, but he shook his head defiantly.

"Don't worry," he said, but I wouldn't back down.

"It's obviously something big if you are blushing," I said, with emphasis on 'you' and 'blushing'. He glared at me and I smiled at him playfully. "Come on," I whined. "Tell me..." he stared at me blankly and I slipped down from the wall in front of him, a little closer than was perhaps necessary. "Please?" I said, staring at him with such a desperate expression that I could see his facade start to waver. I took a tiny step closer to him, feeling the heat from his body, staring into his chocolate eyes.
