Chapter 20: Confrontation

Chapter 20

(too much writing to recap, so I'll summarise it) Jamie sees Spencer and Jess together but does not react, only with sarcastic congratulations. A new boy and girl, twins, start school and Spencer recognises him, first from the natural history museum where they went near the end of Conflicted Emotions, and then from somewhere more sinister...>:)

{~Jess POV~}

Maths was a drag. I couldn't help but be reminded of last year, around November time, when Spencer kept nagging me for questions and I gave him the wrong answers and that got us both into detention, but we still snuck into the party. Good times. Except at the time he had been trying to get into my pants and I had hated every fibre of his being.

But finally, finally Mrs Cole let us leave and I quickly found Spencer and slipped my hand through his.

"Hey," I said and he smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. He looked almost anxious and a little angry. "...you okay?" I asked anxiously. Spencer took a deep breath to pull himself out of his reverie.

"Sorry. That new kid. I know him. And I want to fucking pound his skull in."

His cold, angry voice made me flinch and I frowned, kissing his cheek lightly.

"Chill, Spencer. What'd he do?"

His lips pressed together in a thin line and I didn't press the subject further. Whatever he'd done, it had been bad. I made a mental note to steer clear of this guy; although his sister looked nice. I was a bit worried about what Spencer would do, though. When he got angry he could be properly vicious. What if he did something stupid and beat the kid senseless and got expelled? I would only see him in the holidays then...

Realising I was making a huge fuss over this, I forced myself to calm down and attempted to make conversation with Spencer but he seemed really riled up by that guy. Darius, was it? I was unsure of how to get him to calm down, so I warned Jared he was in a bad mood as we parted ways for next lesson.

"Yo Jess," Martin said cheerfully, followed by Max, Forest and Chris. I shared Biology with them this year.

"Why did I take biology," I sighed as I fell into step with them. I honestly didn't know the answer, nor did I know why I had taken maths. I guess I thought they'd be useful later, as well as English. Whatever... the boys laughed at me, and I scowled. "Hey has anyone heard of 'Darius Ward' before?" I asked, as this dude was bothering me. (A/N I don't know if anyone remembers, but Zack's surname was also Ward. I'm changing it to Winters lol, just to clear any possible confusion).

"Nope, never heard of him," said Forest. Everyone else's replies were similar. I frowned. Who was he? I tried to think who would know, but I didn't know. I decided to drop it for now and just try and focus on biology, as much as any other bored teenager could. Obviously the professor wasn't helping with his boring, monotonous rambling, but we just had to deal.

Finally the second lesson of the year ended and the class hastily packed away and went to their usual break time hideouts. I walked with the guys to the sofa rooms where most of the others were assembled. I hugged Spencer from behind. Why was he always so warm? It felt amazing.

"Hey," I mumbled against his back. He turned in my arms and I felt his lips touch the top of my head as I buried my head in his chest and he hugged me back.

"Hey. Sorry about earlier," we pulled away and he gave me a warm smile. "I'll try not to be bad tempered,"

"Good, it's weird when you're grumpy," I replied, taking one of his hands. Lucy awwwed at us and both Nina and I threatened to hit her because it was really annoying, so she stopped. Break went by too fast and then it was third lesson, English, which I didn't have with any of my friends. I sighed and kissed Spencer goodbye. I laughed at Nina, whose hand was raised to hit Lucy just in case, and then left the company of the others.
