I walked into the coffee shop with niki, passing right where i used to live.

flashback

"what the fuck is this?!" my father yell from my room.

i run upstairs and open my door to be met with him, holding my binder.

"answer me!" he yells in my face.

i flinch. "my under shirt."

"THEN WHY DOES THE BRAND SAY TRANS ON IT!"

"oh umm," i try and think of a excuse.

"you are my daughter! not a boy! not a they! not an it!"

daughter stung a bit.

"I'm sorry." i look down.

"get out."

no. I didn't hear that right, did i?

"what?"

"I said GET OUT!!"

I grabbed a backpack and my phone and put my clothes in the bag and my extra binder.

I slipped my laptop, earbuds, blade and charger while my dad wasn't looking.

I ran out the door and was messing with my phone. I took the sim card out and threw it on the floor and stomped on it, breaking it, so they couldn't track me.

I open my discord and call the first person I could think of. niki

"Hello sage! What's up?" she answers sweetly.

"niki, can i stay with you?"

"oh yeah for sure! Is there a reason?"

"I'll tell you when I get there."

i walk to her apartment and I knock on her door.

"come in!" she takes my hand and walks me to the couch. "what happened?"

"they found out." i stare at my feet.

"found out what?"

"that i'm trans, but they don't know i'm gender-fluid."

"oh sage." she hugs me. "i have an extra room, so you can stay there as long as you like. we'll get you a bed tomorrow but you can sleep on the couch for now."

"thank you so much."

"so i was going to order pizza. want some?"

"sure! just let me go to the bathroom."

i walk into the bathroom and lock the door.

i take the blade out of my pocket, it's all my fault.

i take the blade and out it against my wrist and press down.

i feel the warm blood run down my hand.

i press again and again. i realize i've been in the bathroom for a long time. i grab a few bandaids i had in my pocket and stop the bleeding.

i come out of the bathroom and sit back down beside niki.

Flashback end

it's been about 5 years since i moved in with Niki.
i chopped off a lot of my hair so i could transition better and niki helped me dye it split. my natural hair color, a very dark brown, and white.

i walk to the register and the lady behind the counter asks what I want.

"i'll take a hot mocha and a caramel frappe."

"ok, is that all?"

"yes."

"ok that'll be $6"

i give her my card and she swipes it and gives it back to me.

i turn around to see niki talking to a random guy.

"hello! i ordered our coffees." i tell niki.

"oh ok! sage, this is my friend Wilbur."

i turn to him and he smiles at me. i smile back.

"hello." i reach out my hand and he shakes it.

"hi!"

"An order for sage!" the person behind the counter says loudly.

i grab the coffees and walk back to the table.

we all sit and talk over coffee.

after about an hour wilbur has to go and meet his friend. "so um can i get your number? so we can keep in touch."

"sure!"

he hands me his phone and i put my phone number in.

me and niki stay and chat.

"so i'm going to stream tonight, would you like to join? the last time you joined, chat loved you!"

"i would love to! can i wear a mask? i don't feel comfortable with ny face being out there."

"omg sure! we can stop and buy one if you want!"

I love Niki's kindness. it's something I desperately need.

we stop at a corner store and buy a mask.

we finally get home and she sets up the stream.
