“She's moving.” Michaela whispered and pointed her thumb at me as Katherine came and sat down in our group.

“Really?” Katherine looked at her stupidly.

“I thought you should know.”

“I was the first to know!”

“Really, you guys?” I asked quietly, covering my mouth with my sleeve-covered hands. I don't know why, but knowing that your dad hates you makes you just want to hide from the world.

“What's wrong, Ellie? You're usually so loud.” Michaela asked.

“I'm just tired. I stayed up all night.”

“Can't sleep because you're sad about moving?” Katherine asked.

“Or the fact that your “dad hates you”?” Michaela did air quotes around “dad hates you”.

“No. They were talking about my trip to Allie's. I need to know what's happening to me.”

“Katherine Ruffision?” Mrs. George called from the front of the room. Katherine came up and they talked for a while, motioning to our group a few times. Kath came back and grabbed her stuff, whispering “I'm not allowed to sit with Ellie. Her dad's orders.” before moving to the empty seat next to Anya.

“I seriously hope your dad didn't tell Mrs. George I can't sit with you.” Michaela glanced at me before turning to Mrs. George, where she began reading the schedule for the day.
