“Ellie, come here please.” My dad said, muting the TV. Instead of running up the stairs away from him, I turned around and walked over.
“Yes?”
“I talked to Allie today. She'll be expecting you 3 Friday's from now.” Dad wouldn't even look at me.
“Okay.” I muttered and started to walk away.
“I already packed your bag and you have a list of chores on your desk!” My mom yelled from the kitchen, where she was making spaghetti for dinner.
I ran upstairs and shut the door to my bedroom. I opened my suitcase and everything Mom and I had bought was packed inside. She had laid a purple t-shirt, blue jean shorts, and my TOMS next to it. What I was supposed to wear to the airport.
The chores on the list were small ones. Clean out closet, make clothes donation pile, vacuum room. I was finished in an hour. I didn't have any homework, so I called Katherine, to tell her I was sorry about earlier.
“Hello, Mrs. Ruffision. Is Katherine there?” I asked when her mom answered.
“Ellison? Is that you?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Oh, Ellie. You know you can't speak to Katherine.”
“But why not? I just want to ask her a question.”
“But your dad came over here and told us that you and Katherine are not to hang out together.”
“We're not hanging out, I'm just asking a question. And why is he punishing her!? It was Jacob's party, anyway!”
“I know, Ellie. I'm sorry. Can I pass on a message?”
“Yeah. Tell her I'm sorry about what happened earlier when she was walking home from school.”
“What happened? Did she get hurt?”
“No, nothing happened. But I'm just sorry that we can't hang out, but add the 'when she was walking home' part to it. Okay, Mrs. Ruffision?”
“Of course, Ellison. Have a good day.” Then she hung up.
