“What!?” Kath yelled from the other side of the street. She was taking the 'not allowed to hang out with me' thing very seriously. She wouldn't even walk home with Michaela and I. We were walking on the right side of the street, with Katherine on the left.
“If you want to know what we said, come over here!” I yelled back.
“You know I can't!”
“Who care's what my dad says?!”
“Forget about it, Ellie. A true friend would hang out with you no matter what.” I nodded, and when I finally looked over at Michaela, she was pointing to herself, saying she was a 'true friend'.
“Because I'm following orders means I'm not a good friend!?” Kath yelled, looking mad.
“I didn't say that! I said a TRUE friend, not a good friend!” Michaela yelled.
“You know, last time I checked, you and I were friends first!” Kath yelled to me.
“That has nothing to do with you being a true friend or not! And my dad would never know anyway if we were walking together or not, as long as you went to the other side of the street before we got to my house.” I interrupted.
“Fine! Have fun without me!” Katherine yelled, then ran ahead of us from the other side.
“Should we have been a little nicer?” I asked, once Katherine had disappeared from view.
“She got what she deserved.”
“She was just following my dad's orders.”
“Are you agreeing with her or me?” Michaela took a few steps away from me.
“No! You!” I grabbed her arm and pulled her back over towards me.
