TW: Police interrogation, (description of) blood

Kai sat at the table, on the side opposite the big one-way mirror they used in interrogations. He nervously played with his fingers as the officers set up a camera in a corner of the room. A pen and a form carelessly lay on a clipboard off of the side of the table.

Kai's mind was all over the place, too busy with thoughts to really take in what he was about to do. He thought about calling Nya. His hand edged towards his phone in his pocket.

No. Kai pulled away his hand from his phone and firmly placed it on the table, and closed his eyes. I'm not weak, I don't need help. I can do this alone. Kai scowled.

The second officer sat down with a sigh, bringing Kai back to the room and out of his loud mind.

"Ok, Kai, this is how this is going to work. We will be recording what happens in this room in case of any information you may give us via speech, but for the most part, you will be writing your statement on this form," The officer reached over the table and slid the paper and pen towards Kai. Kai looked down to the top of the sheet. The date was already filled in along with the officers' names and the case number. Kai took a short breath and nodded slightly.

"You can ask us any questions about the form and you can take a break at any time," The first officer sat down with a smile. "Oh and I'm John and this is Matt," He said with a chuckle. Kai half-smiled and slowly reached for the pen.

He hadn't realised it was going to be on paper. That somehow made it better and worse. Not having to force his mouth to say some of the shit out loud was definitely a relief, but his handwriting had always been terrible, and his spelling was even worse. How was he going to write all of it down?

Kai cringed at the thought of how many words he was going to have to ask how to spell.

Kai shook his head, took a deep breath, repressed all of the commotion in his head, and started filling out his details on the form.

His name, phone number, address, and date of birth. Quickly, he reached the part about the capture. He hesitated, the pen hovered over the paper as he read the words.

It asked for physical effects from his capture and below it emotional effects. He didn't know where to begin. He felt his mind start to fuzz over with incoherent noise from every part of him crying over the top of his conflicting thoughts. He looked up at the officers, lost and overwhelmed.

"Uhm... where... where do I start...? Like-- I just, uhm-- There's so much..." He trailed off, slightly pointing to the prompt on the paper. The second officer, Matt, looked over the form. Kai felt himself slowly start to shake from nerves.

"You can start by telling us-- in this section that is--" Matt pointed to some extra lines above the questions. "--how you got into the situation, then work your way through each event and write down the physical and emotional effects they had on you," Matt spoke in a gentle voice and it made Kai feel more safe than he had expected to feel.

Kai sighed as he tried to cancel out all of the thoughts running through his mind and stop the shaking that had taken over his body.

It was time to really do it.

"It's seven o'clock... We should start thinking about dinner..." Cole prompted. They had just finished another round of Mario Kart and it had gotten quiet again between them. Their silences didn't feel as peaceful as they usually did, it made all of them feel tense.

"Mhm... I'll get Pixal, I think she's with Master Wu, we'll start cooking," Zane replied, a little happy to be out of the room and spend time with Pixal.

"Ok, thanks," Cole's eyes followed Zane as he stood up, placed his controller onto the coffee table, and walked out of the room towards Wu's bedroom.

Another silence crept over them until Jay broke their trances by turning off the Nintendo, plunging them into actual silence. He looked over at Lloyd and Nya.

"Should we go check on Kai? By 'we' I mean you guys mostly, but y'know, we want to know whether he's ok or not too," Jay gestured to Cole and himself. Lloyd sat up straighter, turning to Nya.

"We should check on him, we wanted to talk to him about something anyway," Lloyd stood up and placed his controller down, taking Cole and Jay's as well.

"Yeah, right... if he sleeps any longer he won't be able to sleep properly tonight anyway," Nya said quietly, following Lloyd.

She was a little nervous about confronting Kai. Sure, she'd done it in the past, but it hadn't ever worked. He continued to repress his emotions and pretend things were fine when they weren't. At the warehouse, it was the first time she'd seen Kai cry in ages.

But this time, Lloyd was going to be talking with him too.

What if it worked? What if she was finally able to help Kai? Would she finally be able to feel content knowing Kai wasn't going to hide things from her anymore? Would she finally be able to repay him for all the times he'd ever helped her?

"Ok... Well, tell him we hope he's feeling better now..." Cole said as Lloyd and Nya walked around the couches. Nya stopped, holding the door frame. She looked at Cole and Jay and gave them a reassuring smile.

"Of course," And she left down the hallway to Lloyd who was waiting at Kai's door.

"Know what you're gonna say?" Lloyd checked with Nya, raising his hand to the door.

"Yeah, I think, you?" Nya asked back. Lloyd nodded with a small smile, and knocked on the door.

No reply. Like they'd expected.

"Kai? We wanna talk to you..." Lloyd quietly slid open the door and he and Nya looked over the room.

It was deserted.

Kai's bed was unmade, the pillows everywhere but where they should've been. The closet doors hung half-open, exposing the messily draped clothes that looked as though they'd been rummaged through. But what scared Lloyd and Nya the most:

The window was wide open.
