Tormented Rescue (Ninjago Fanfiction)

Part 19

Lloyd and Wu jumped down from their dragons.

"We're home!" Wu announced, seeing the door open. Cole leaned around the doorway and gave them a smile.

"Kai, Lloyd's here, don't try to pretend like you haven't been desperate to see him," Cole teased, looking behind the door. Kai appeared looking flustered.

"Shush," He nudged Cole out of his way as he came past. Kai stopped and looked at Lloyd coming up to the door and smiled. "Lloyd..." He opened his arms.

Lloyd ran the rest of the way and jumped onto Kai, shaking from the tears he'd been holding back all night that were still fighting to break loose.

"You... you--" Lloyd squeezed him tighter. "You idiot... leaving alone..." Lloyd was overwhelmed with emotion.

He was sad and scared for Kai, he'd been so worried, and seeing Kai ok felt incredible, but it also made all of his worryings seem stupid, and so now he was angry, but he couldn't be angry at Kai, he hadn't done anything wrong--

It was all too much.

Lloyd stood straight, his hands on Kai's shoulders, he stared into his eyes.

"You, made all of us, terrified." He said, trying to be stern, but his voice wobbled on the edge of breaking into sobs.

Kai gave him a small sad smile and then looked down.

"I know, the others didn't forget to tell me..." He said with a small chuckle, but he gulped down some tears.

Lloyd, having completely forgotten about the others in his emotional state, quickly took his hands off of Kai's shoulders and crossed his arms instead, pretending he hadn't been on the verge of an emotional breakdown.

"Kai, though I am upset at you, I understand why you left alone, and I'm very happy to see that you're ok," Wu came up beside Lloyd in the hallway. "Mostly ok," He added with a sad smile.

Kai rubbed his neck and looked away in shame.

"Well-- I-- I'm fine... kind of... I guess, I-- I don't know, I'm too tired to tell really..." Kai shrugged and looked at Lloyd hopefully, but he still had his head down.

"Well, it's not like we have anything else to do other than go to bed, so I suppose, goodnight?" Nya said suggestingly. The others all mumbled an agreement.

Lloyd looked up and saw Kai's asking eyes, to which Lloyd relaxed a bit with a smile. They said goodnight to the others and walked off down the hallway.

"My room or yours?" Lloyd asked.

"Yours?" Kai suggested, and they smiled, realising that they had the same idea.

Lloyd had a small TV set in his room meaning they could watch something together. Sure they were tired, but escaping somewhere together for a little bit before getting serious would help them relax if anything.

They went into their own rooms to get ready and then Kai came back into Lloyd's room, and they got settled in bed to watch a show.
