TW: (mention of) Kidnapping, police statement

"I couldn't bear the look Lloyd gave me when he looked up, he looked so... so hurt but, like always, he was more concerned for me rather than himself. I ran out of the monastery and I summoned my dragon. I... I couldn't believe that-- that I'd just done that-- and to Lloyd of all people! I-- just cried, the entire way into the city. Eventually, my dragon landed and it was on top of a building near the edge of the far side of the city. We barely ever go to that area, so I... I suppose my mind thought it was a good place to avoid my friends... I was just walking around, I knew the rules of making sure people were around and staying away from the dark alleys, but-- but they-- they weren't... they weren't in a dark alley at all. They were just... around the corner, planning to jump the first person who came 'round, and... I just... I got so-- so shocked I just... I froze up. I forgot I even had powers to defend myself. But by the time it finally hit me what was going on and what I needed to do... they'd noticed I was... a-- a ninja, and-- and so... before I had the chance to fight back, one of them hit me with something in the head." Kai gulped, his eyes already stinging like hell.

Kai continued talking, struggling over his words, thinking about everything at once. He glanced between the officers, his hands, the table, and sometimes Nya. The police officers made notes every once in a while, or adjusted the microphone, but for the most part, Kai was the only one talking and moving. Nya sat frozen, not looking at Kai, but holding his hand, and squeezing it whenever she felt he or she needed it. All of Nya's concentration was on listening to every sound Kai made and not crying. The interview went on for 2 hours, and Kai managed to take not a single break, other than taking a shaky sip of water.

"And... then I-- I thought I was hallucinating, honestly," Kai half-laughed then sniffled. "But I heard my friends' voices. They were so quiet, but I knew it was them. And then-- they just-- appeared! In front of me! And... I was... saved."

Kai closed his eyes, wiping away his tears with a shaky breath. The officers looked between each other and then Matt started nodding slowly. He drew a deep breath and then looked up at Kai.

"Well... Kai. Thank you, this has been a very productive interview, you've given us many valuable details. We'll go through the recording and then we'll call you back to ask a few questions about some of your statements, but that should be it after that unless anything unexpected pops up," Matt explained. Kai nodded.

"I'm sorry that-- that you were put through so much... I hope you win the justice you deserve," John spoke up and gave Kai a small smile and Kai gulped down his anger. He knew it was pointless to be angry at the officers. They didn't have control over whether or not Kai had to go to court to get him in jail for life-- hopefully. "You're free to go whenever," John stood up and turned off the microphone. "Matt and I will give you and your sister some space," Matt stood up with John and Kai nervously held his breath, he was scared to talk to Nya. Matt and John slowly walked out of the room, Matt gave him one last reassuring smile before the door clicked shut. Kai released his breath and slowly looked over at Nya.

Nya was still staring forward, but she was shaking. Eventually, she gulped and blinked, the tears in her eyes rolling down her cheeks. She slowly turned her head to look Kai in the eyes.

"Kai..." Nya squeaked, barely able to breathe through her emotions. She wrapped her arms around Kai and stuffed her face into his shoulder, refusing to start sobbing. She held him tightly and her shaking shook Kai too. Kai gulped and hugged back, rubbing her shoulder with one of his hands. She sniffled and let go of her breath. "I love you..." She squeezed him. Kai felt a small smile on his lips, and he squeezed her back.

"I love you too..." Kai replied, feeling Nya relax a little, but still hanging on the verge of breaking down.

"Thank you... for-- for letting me be here and be here for you, and letting me know the story... I-- It-- It hurts, but-- it's..." Nya held her breath and then sighed. "But I feel so much better knowing there's nothing you're hiding from me, at least in this situation, and I hope... I hope you feel the same way," Nya gulped and turned her head slightly. Kai's small smile grew bigger.

"I didn't think I would feel comfortable with you knowing everything but... actually-- I feel-- It feels... nice... I guess," Kai faintly chuckled at his confusing emotions. Above all he knew he was exhausted and just wanted to go back to his room and take a nap. Nya heard Kai's quiet, sluggish voice and decided they wouldn't stay any longer. She released their hug but kept hold of Kai's hand and stood up. Kai caught his breath but slowly stood up as well.

"Home?" Nya asked, tugging on Kai's hand. Kai knew Nya had meant going home to the monastery, but the word still flashed images of the blacksmith shop in his mind. His throat closed up so instead of speaking he just gave Nya a weak smile and a small nod, which luckily she didn't find suspicious. She started to drag him out of the room and then down the hall, all while Kai's mind continued to flash memories in his eyes.

Tears grew, stinging his eyes, but he quickly blinked them away. Kai might not have had anything left to hide about the incident, but he still had other things he wanted to keep from her.
