TW: Swearing, (mention of) blood, police interrogation

Kai had woken up an hour ago, but he didn't have it in him to get up. He just wanted to lay there forever. He was so done with everything. He'd cried twice into his pillow, first when he woke up and then another when he let his thoughts wander too far.

He looked at his wrist, the bandages were still bloody from his frustration earlier. He sighed and turned over, looking out of the window.

The sun was setting, basking Kai's room in golden light. The sound of the clock ticking on his wall was the only sound he could hear. It would've been the perfect afternoon to spend with his friends.

Tears welled in his eyes again and he turned back away from the window.

He had no idea what was going to happen now. He knew that he'd definitely have to give his statement tomorrow and he couldn't try to get out of it. Nya wanted to come with him, and the idea seemed better now than when he had been at the table, if anyone was going to know what he had gone through, it best be the person who was there for him when he went through other shit, right?

But he still didn't want to go with her.

Kai slowly propped himself up in bed, his mind whirring with thought. Would the station be open now? He looked up at the clock. 6:47. He'd been asleep for 4 hours.

He slowly shuffled himself onto the edge of his bed, hesitated, but stood up, letting go of his breath. He went to the bathroom to change the bandages on his arm and wash his face from the tears, and then he came back into his room to grab a change of clothes.

He'd go now. Alone. He didn't want her to come with him, but he knew she wouldn't agree to him going alone, so the only way it was happening, was without her knowing that he'd gone.

He'd be back by the time anyone came to check on him.

It's better to do things on impulse anyway, I'll have less time to chicken out again.

Kai walked down the street, hoodie up because otherwise people would crowd him. No one had seen him yet. People knew he was ok, Kai had seen the news reporters trying to fight the police setting up yellow tape along the sidewalk and road around the warehouse. But he knew that people were looking for confirmation, for more than the shaky camera footage of him in Lloyd's gi being chaperoned by nurses and police. His phone was flooded with DMs from all of his social media asking for an update, but he didn't have the right words to say to everyone yet.

Kai walked up to the doors of the police station. He hesitated as he reached for the handle.

There would be no going back. His mind started to wander to all of the questions he'd have to answer, and the pressure, and all of the things he'd have to reveal. As his chest tightened, so did his grip around the handle.

No. He was definitely not about to cry on the doorstep of the police station. Kai straightened himself and pushed open the door without a second thought.

The lady at the front desk looked up from her computer screen.

"Hello there sir, what brings you to the police station?"

Kai looked around and saw plaques on the off-white walls, along with shelves with photos and trophies and medals, and random letters framed on the walls. Kai put his gaze back to the lady and gave her a soft smile, and pulled down his hood. The lady's eyes widened.

"Kai Smith? Are you here for your interview? Lloyd called for you today saying you wouldn't be able to come," The lady stood up and walked around the desk.

"Oh, uh, yes, I wasn't able to come... earlier today, but-- but I'm here now, because... I feel well enough to talk now, and am afraid I won't be again anytime soon." Kai explained. It wasn't wrong, but it wasn't the truth. He'd forgotten Lloyd told him that he'd call the police before he left his room.

"Ok, that's fine, luckily we do have an interrogation room free now, so I'll take you to it and I'll bring in our inspectors for your case." The lady walked over to the door to the side of her desk and held open the door for Kai. Kai nodded shyly and followed her through.

The hallway had more of the same decoration as in the main room, but the walls were deep blue with a white trim around the bottom. Doors with half-scraped labels lined each break between the support beams in the roof and the lady walked past all of them.

She turned the corner and there were a few tinted windows with blinds and doors beside them with tags.

She stopped at a door labelled 'Interrogation Room 4' and unlocked the door with a set of keys.

"Go sit at the table, I'll bring in the investigators in a moment," And with that, she left Kai at the door. Kai stared blankly at the isolated table with three chairs around it. The longer Kai stared, the more it began to look like the centre of the warehouse.

His mind wandered to the yellow glow from the chains he'd grown accustomed to. To the weapons discarded on the floor in pools of Kai's blood. When he started to hear the computer whirring in his ears he shook his head with regret, he knew he shouldn't've come here alone. Everything was too blurry from his tears. He stepped away from the room, holding his chest. His heart ached and his mind was screaming.

Fuck, crap, oh god, I knew I should've just turned around--

But it was too late now. The lady came round the corner with the same two officers from the day as Kai took some deep breaths and hid his teary eyes.

"Are you ok, sir?" The lady asked, seeing Kai's distraught state. Kai gave her a weak smile.

"Yeah, I'm fine," He strained.

"Well, hello Kai, it's nice to meet you in a better state than yesterday, how have things been today?" The first officer asked reaching out his hand to Kai.

"Haha, yeah, well it's been better," Kai shook the officer's hand and looked to the ground awkwardly.

"Ok, I'll let you guys do your thing, let me know if you need any contacts," The lady tapped the second officer on the shoulder and left down the hallway.

"Right, let's go inside and we can explain to you how this is going to work."
