Sarah was sitting at the station while her mother was in surgery. She didn't have a single penny to afford a lawyer. She was eighteen plus and wouldn't be offered any perks that she could have been availed of.
So, when a lawyer came to get her bail in the evening it was a little surprising for her. She didn't ask that paralegal team any questions but they were quick to tell her once they were out.
"The person who had helped you is waiting for you in a Mercedes car under the hub. You better see her."
Her? It means it was a woman who helped her. But who it could be she wonders. She walked to the said vehicle and the driver who was standing beside the backseat opened the door for her. Sarah bowed a little to notice Jessica sitting there. Her eyes widened. Sarah wonders why she helped her.
"Get in...I know you are innocent." Sarah's eyes flickered before she reluctantly got into the vehicle.
"I really am innocent. He called me first. I had never met him before...I mean, I knew who he is...but I would never..." Her voice dropped at the end and Jessica held her hand up.
"Look...I didn't want my husband to know that I know about him. You see this could complicate many things. From the next time too, if you ever want anything. Do remember me. I will help. This is the only thing I can do for you, ok? But you have to accept my one condition..." Jessica told her and she looked at Jessica wondering what it could be.
"What...what is it?" Sarah could sense danger.
"You have to leave this city along with your mother. If you are out of lock-up...my husband can be a trouble for you. And, we both don't want it." Sarah looked at her face for a moment before she asked,
"Why are you staying with a person like him? Why are you supporting him? He will destroy someone else's life. You can't let him go like this..." Jessica smiled bitterly but then seemed annoyed.
"You are in no place to ask me anything at all. You better follow my instruction or the next time I won't even be here to get you a bail. And,..." She trailed off looking her up and down. "...you seem with some brain."
Sarah gulped but then asked her. "What about the charges against me? There were people and reporters who clicked me with the police. I will be ruined if it gets to my university..." But before she could go on Jennifer stopped her.
"That's not my problem to deal with Sarah. Do you want to be out of jail or not?" Sarah had worked too hard on her education. But she also knew she couldn't fight it.
Sarah slowly got out of the car wondering how this night is going to affect her future. She could only hope for the best.
She commuted back to the hospital where her mother was now in the care unit. She noticed her mother sleeping sound and when Sandra came to ask where she had been for so long. Sarah only shook her head.
But only in the morning, Sandra came to her stomping her feet. "You are all over in the local paper." Sarah was beyond mortified. Wondering what she could tell her aunt. "I..."
"I am utterly disappointed in you. How do you think Catherine will feel about it?" Sarah got her mouth dry. She clasped her sweaty palms and tried to clarify with tears in her eyes.
"Can you believe me? I have only gotten into a situation. You..." Holding her aunt's hand she told her. "...know me."
But Sandra was quick to get her hand back. "I am not your aunt. Once Catherine opens her eyes. You better leave. I am sure Catherine wouldn't want a daughter like you."
"Hey sweety, your mother is up." A nurse came to inform them and Sarah gulped. Though Sarah had a height of 5'8. From her features and big spectacles, she still looked like fifteen. Sandra looked too mad to move but Sarah started walking to her mother's room.
