The first thing I felt in the morning was a pair of strong arms wrapped around my waist, which didn't bother me at all until I realized the only other person supposed to be in the room was... "What the hell!!!?" I shouted, springing up from the bed and landing at the foot, a pillow in my hand. Agent White jumped up when I yelled, getting into a fighting stance. He suddenly saw me and lowered his hands. "What the hell Agent White!? You had your own bed!" I said, still shouting. "Good morning to you too, and I was cold?" He yawned, raising an eyebrow, a smile tugging at the edge of his lips. Honestly, I could see why, here I was, standing in a tank top and shorts, my hair a mess, my eyes still grimy from sleep, threatening him with a pillow.
Breathing heavily, I suddenly realized 2 things, Agent White was shirtless, and it was past 10. And we needed to be back at the base to report what happened. Trying my best to not get distracted by Agent White, I weakly threw the pillow at him, nailing him in the face. Picked up my suit and with a final glare at Agent White I started to the bathroom to shower.
Agent White glanced at me as he put on his seatbelt, I was sitting, staring at my phone, just waiting for us to go. He chuckled as I glared at him through the corner of my eye "What, you not still mad at me...are you?"
"Yes," I growled, turning back to my phone just as the cab took off.
We had been asked to be dropped off a few streets down from where the base was, just to be sure no one asked any questions. I still couldn't believe Agent White had done that, except I could because it seemed like something he would do. Yet even though I kept telling myself I was angry, I wasn't. I had slept better than I had in years, and for once, I had felt safe, like I didn't need to lock the doors and hide, or be afraid every second of the night that someone was going to kidnap me (trust, it's a very common thing with our family). Of course, there was no way on earth you were going to get me to ever admit that to him!
After an hour of driving, I looked up, feeling the cab start to slow. Pretty soon the driver came to a halt in front of a giant black building. Looking around, I saw we were in the city, but this wasn't the street we had requested. Starting to feel nervous, I pulled on a black and navy blue beaded bracelet I had on from my 4th birthday, it was something I always did when I started to feel anxious. Agent White noticed this and reached forward to the driver, a balding, older man, with a cigar hanging out of his mouth. The driver jerked around when Agent White touched his elbow "Huh? What ya want kid?"
"Uh, this doesn't appear to be the street we asked for"
"Do I look like a map kid? I couldn't find the street, so I'm droppin' ya off here"
Agent White looked at me, shrugged, paid the man, and got out. Getting out I walked to the sidewalk, expecting to meet Agent White there, only to find myself standing alone. Looking around I saw Agent White across the street, he met my eye and motioned to me. Sighing, I crossed the street. When I drew close, he pulled me inside the shop he had been standing in front of and pretended to look at the clothes they had. "What are you doing?" I demanded, crossing my arms, preventing him from dragging me around anymore. Still looking at a shirt, he whispered "This whole thing is shady Agent Black"
"Yeah no kidding" I hissed.
"We've been followed"
"How do you know that"
"That Uber had the tattoo of a rival gang that's always making trouble for us and the CIA"
"The Cobra?"
"Yes, it was on his neck. He was trying to cover it with a turtleneck, but I saw the tongue part sticking out, then half of it when we hit a bump"
"Ok, but what does that have to do with us being followed?"
"Don't you notice anything Agent Black? There was a black van with the same tattoo toward the end of this street, and the driver had been talking on the phone the entire time"
"Ok so? It could have been a coincidence, some of the gang members escape and pick up normal jobs. Besides, he was speaking in Spanish, you can't prove anything"
"I understood the whole conversation! Agent Black, since we are partners, we have to trust each other more, I've been on missions like this, and run into this gang before, they don't mess around! And your suit probably attracts a lot of attention too"
"Considering this morning, I got to say I don't trust you a lot"
"Fair point, but you gotta know..."
"Yeah?"
"I wasn't cold"
"The room was like 80 degrees"
"You were having a nightmare"
"I..."
I felt the heat creeping up to my cheeks, and my heart quickened, but before I could answer, a guy came dressed in jeans, and a light gray shirt with a black leather jacket over top. His hat and glasses covered his hair and eyes, but he looked like a guy you didn't what to mess with. Grabbing my hand, Agent White took some of the snacks and went up, paid for them, then quickly dragged me outside and started fast walking to a more open part of town.
