Undercover Love

Chapter 21

The fire fairly flew up after they left, and since there was no hole in the ceiling and the windows were all tightly closed, the smoke made it nearly impossible to breathe after just a few minutes.

"Agent White? Max?" I mumbled, starting to feel light-headed and slumping forward in my seat.

Meanwhile, Agent White had started wildly bouncing around in his chair, but stopped when he heard me call to him, looking up, he frowned when he saw my head down. 

"Rain? Rain are you okay? RAIN!!"

I heard his voice from far away and managed to mumble a weak "I don't feel good" before the world started spinning and I started blacking out.

"Oh no" 

It was weird, I wasn't able to speak or move, and my mind seemed fuzzy, but I could hear people and kind of understand what was happening. So I was blindly aware when I heard a crash, then felt my chains loosen and someone pick me up, and a few minutes later I breathed in a breath of fresh air.

It seemed like a long time before I was able to open my eyes and fully realize what exactly was happening. When I groaned and lifted my head from Agent Whites' chest where he had been holding me for the past 30 minutes and came face to face with the worried face of Agent White.

He sighed and tightened his grip around me, closing his eyes and laying his head on top of my head "Thank god you ok, you gave me a scare, you weren't breathing a lot when I got you out"

I took a deep breath and laid my head back on Agent White mumbling "I'm ok"

We stayed like that for a bit, with Agent White kissing the top of my head every so often and rubbing my arm. I suddenly frowned and sat up a bit "Wait, who's driving and how did you get out?"

"Oh...Your friend Jim"

I looked toward the front to see Jim smiling at me through the rearview mirror 

"Max explained everything to me, that bomb should be going off in about 3 1/2 hours, and it takes a while to get there, so you love birds need to pray that you get there in time, cause I'm going as fast as I can"

I smiled and turned back to Agent White as Jim resumed his full focus on the dark road ahead, the rising sun barely visible on the horizon. 

"How did we get out?"

"Well, Jim said he was watching through the window when we were kidnapped and he followed us here?"

"Then why didn't he rescue us sooner?"

"Cause we were being guarded? Duh!"

"Oh...right"

"Turns out your cousin waited outside until he could see smoke, then left, so Jim had to wait to go in, but he came in just in time, another few minutes, and you..."

He didn't finish his sentence, he didn't have to, I knew I was lucky to be alive. Why didn't I just use my suit? My cousin has deactivated it...yeah, but now we were on our way to deactivate the bomb, the only problem was...

"Agent White, where would you hide a bomb?"

"Oh...I did not think of that"

"For once, I thought of something you didn't"

Before Agent White could respond, Jim spoke up.

"I believe I have a bomb detector somewhere in this old truck, you could use that if ya want"

"Oh thank goodness! Jim, you are a lifesaver!"

"You got that right kid! Now where do you want me to drop you off exactly?"

We gave him directions, then Agent White and I sat in awkward silence until Agent White spoke up "So if we pull this off and both of us make it out alive, what then?"

"I don't know, the Mafia will probably hate me for being a double agent and hate you because you knew and didn't tell them"

"Yeah, and the CIA will probably hate you because you got rid of one of their leaders"

"But I...."

"Face it, no one is going to believe or hear the whole story except you and me"

"That's true"

"So we'll be on the run?"

"Yep"

"Sounds fun...oh yes, we can't forget about the biggest thing"

"What now?"

"The Cobra will be coming after us now"

"What's new?"

"No seriously, we'll most likely be on their most wanted list"

"Oh joy"
