We quickly got to the busier side of town and Agent White pulled me into another, fancier shop, again pretending to look at the dresses and clothes they had in stock. Starting to feel more anxious, I started looking around, feeling my heart beating faster, and panic rising in my chest. When I finally looked back, Agent White had pulled out a dress and seemed to be trying to figure out if I would into it. Noticing that I was looking at him, he smiled and held up the dress "You like it? Why don't you try it on, I can pay" I shook my head, feeling ready to cry "I don't want a dress, I want to get out of this mission alive" Agent White immediately lowered the dress and put it back, a concerned look on his face. "Are you ok Agent Black?" I nodded, placing my hand over my heart and taking a deep breath.
"Agent Black...Agent Black... please wake up!" I groaned, feeling someone shaking me. Opening my eyes, I found myself leaning against Agent White. I quickly tried to take a step back, only to end up almost falling back if it wasn't for Agent White grabbing my hand and pulling me back, placing his arm around my waist to keep me from falling again. Accepting my fate of being pressed against Agent White, I placed a hand on my now-pounding head and asked "What happened?"
"I don't know exactly, but after you said you nodded that you were ok, you fell into my arms. I mean, I know I'm charming, but I didn't know I was so charming that a girl like you would faint into my arms at the offer of buying a dress for her"
I just rolled my eyes and laid my head on his shoulder, feeling too exhausted to even say anything, letting him take me out of the store and down the sidewalk. A couple of minutes later, Agent White showed me to a nice restaurant, and as we were waiting in line to be shown to a table, I looked up and him and asked "Why are we here?" He looked at me and raised an eyebrow "You haven't eaten anything today...have you?"
"Well..."
"That's why"
"I was busy..."
"Have you drank any water?"
"...No"
Agent White just gave me a pained 'I knew it look', and looked back toward the line, moving forward a little bit. My head started pounding again and I laid my head back on his shoulder as we moved forward and were finally shown to a table toward the far side of the restaurant. Taking his arm from around my waist, he helped me sit down, then sat down himself as a waiter brought us some menus and some water. Placing his napkin on his lap, he raised his eyebrows at me, as if waiting for me to do something. "What?"
"You need to drink that water"
"I'm not thirsty Agent White"
"Do it"
Sighing, I took the glass in my hand and stared at it for a solid 30 seconds before downing half of it. The headache instantly lessened and I felt better. Looking up, I saw Agent White smiling as though he had just completed some great feat. I rolled my eyes again, as it was the only thing I didn't feel too tired to do, and started looking at the menu. Suddenly, Agent White put down his menu and forced me to lower mine "How long have you not eaten?"
I frowned "Why?"
"I want to know, it's 5 pm right now, we weren't doing a lot of vigorous activity today, you shouldn't be at the fainting point from just one day of not eating"
I put the menu back up, even though I had already decided what I wanted to eat. A few seconds later, the menu was yanked out of my hands and I met with the face of Agent White that was anything but playing around. He closed and set both menus on his lap. "Agent Black, I'm gonna ask you this one more time, when did you eat last"
"Yeah, or what?"
"Or I'll take you to the doctor to give you a check-up"
"Ok, ok! Geez" I said, crossing my arms. It would be terrible to go to the doctor for multiple reasons, my identity would be at stake, and I knew I was underweight, which would lead to more problems. I mumbled the number of days and then slumped into my seat. "What was that?" Agent White asked, leaning forward and cupping his ear. I mumbled again, which got me an 'I'll do it' look from Agent White. "Fine! Roughly a week"
"A week!? And I'm guessing that 'roughly' doesn't mean under...does it?"
"No"
"Agent Black, if you needed time off to eat, or needed..."
"I don't need help Agent White or pity. I'm used to it, I'm not even hungry right now"
"What? You don't need help? Agent Black, how often do you normally eat?"
"I don't know, it's all over the place"
At this time the waiter came back to take our orders, putting a stop to the conversation. "And can I get a name for the order? It just makes things easier" Pausing for a moment, Agent White looked at me for a couple of seconds before turning back and saying "Liam"
"Ok thank you, your order will be right to you soon"
I frowned "Did you seriously consider giving her your real name?"
"How do you know it wasn't my real name?"
"Was it?"
"No, but yes, I did consider it, aren't you curious?"
I just stared at him, I hadn't thought about it, I'd always just thought of him as Agent White. Shrugging I said just that "I've always thought of you as just Agent White" He chuckled "Well I haven't, I've spent a lot of time trying to guess your name" I smiled "And what did you come up with?" Just then, the waiter came back with our orders. I had ordered a salmon dish, and Agent White had ordered a veggie and noodle soup. "Well, you want to hear?" I nodded, digging into my order. "Ok... Brianna?" I choked and burst out laughing, "Not even close!"
"Uh... Mia?"
"Nope"
"Goodness, I thought for sure one of those names!"
"You think I look like a Mia?"
"I don't know, I've always thought of Mia as a bad..."
"Don't say it"
Agent White chuckled, taking a bite, then motioned to me "So, have you thought about me?" I jerked up "What?"
"My name?"
"Oh, uh...no, not really"
"Ok"
The rest of the dinner was quiet, each of us occupied by our thoughts. After dinner, Agent White found us a hotel, and we started walking, both of us now too on edge to get into a cab after the last time. "Thanks for dinner Agent White"
"No problem, I'm gonna make sure you eat from now on"
"No really Agent White, I'm used to not eating, it might be bad for me if I started eating every single day"
"How can that be bad?"
I didn't answer, honestly, I didn't know, I had just said that to hopefully end the conversation. Agent White spoke up again after a few minutes of silence "Why...uh, if you don't mind"
"Hmm?"
"Why are you used to not eating every day?"
"Uh...My mom, she was obsessed with models, wanted me to grow up and be a model"
"And she thought the only way to do that was to...starve you?"
"Yeah... she died when I was 13, and I went to live with my dad who didn't care what I ate"
"But the damage was done?"
Both Agent White and I stayed silent the rest of the way back until we said goodnight to each other at the hotel. I realized as I fell asleep, at one point I was going to have to finish my CIA mission and betray the mafia, meaning, I'd have to betray Agent White.
