Undercover Love

Chapter 24

It was an amazing day when the prison called to let me know Agent White's time was up and I could now pick him up as a free man.

When I pulled up, the first thing Agent White did, before even saying hi, was take me in his arms and pull me into a long kiss. When it ended, Agent White grinned and held up my car keys. 

"Wha...how did you?"

"C'mon, I want to take you on a date"

"But...I'm not even dressed for it...oh never mind" I groaned, just getting in the car.

"Aren't you happy to see me?" Agent White asked as he pulled out.

"I was until you stole my car"

"I didn't steal it! Ok maybe I did, but I'll make it up to you, you'll love this evening, I promise"

"Ok fine, I'll go along with it, but it better be good"

In short, it was good, as soon as I saw where we were going, my heart immediately forgave him for everything. 

"We're going here!?"

"Yep!"

"But Agent White, this is one of the most expensive restaurants in the city"

"And you look hot in your suit"

"What?"

"Oh sorry, I thought we were stating the obvious"

"But...why?"

"Because you deserve the best, duh"

"I got the best" I answered flatly, looking straight into Agent White's eyes after he parked, he looked down for a bit, then looked up at me and smiled a bit "Don't be so sure that you did love"

I sucked in a breath and felt my heart stop when he called me that. Looking away I blushed, then got out of the car to join him on the sidewalk. I paused for a second before we went in and asked "Wait, how do you have a black suit if you just got out of prison?"

"I had them keep it for me until I got out"

"Oh"

After we got gotten our food, Agent White reached across and softly took my hand, I paused eating for a second and narrowed my eyes at him "Last time you did this you said you were going to turn yourself in"

Agent White just laughed and smiled sheepishly "I just wanted to say I love you"

I blushed and squeezed his hand before letting go with an "I love you too"

"I do mean it, but do you ever feel like..."

"Like what?'

"Like we are rushing our relationship a bit?"

"No, I always give out the advice that if you truly love someone, you don't have to wait a long time. I also know people that have gotten married after 2 months, just saying"

"Is that supposed to mean something?" Agent White asked, leaning forward and narrowing his eyes.

"What!? No! I was just saying, compared to some people we are taking our relationship very slowly"

"I see"

We ate in silence for a few more minutes before I spoke up "So, I doubt the Mafia is going to take you back in since you helped me"

"Yep, but I have a good amount of money saved up so I'll be good for a long time"

"Right, well, then you probably don't want to hear any more"

"Wait no tell me!"

"Fine, I was promoted to the boss, the same position my cousin had before he got arrested"

"What really? That's great!"

"Yeah, and I would love to make you an offer I hope you'll take upon"

"Hmm?"

"In my headquarters, we normally have the boss and then the second in command, the bosses partner, I would love it if you could fill that spot"

"Are you sure it would be ok for me to be that high up, I mean, with my past and all?"

"I already worked everything out, they said they would be fine with it as long as I keep a close eye on you. You'd be working with me, going on missions, organizing missions, picking out recruits, etc. Pretty good pay too"

"Well... if I'll be working with you, then I'll take it"

"You will!?"

"I will"

"YES!!"

Right in the middle of celebrating, I got a phone call. 

"Hello?"

"Is this Agent Black, AKA, Rain Lockhart?"

"Uh...who is this"

"Someone who is very mad you locked his boss away"

"Rain, who is it?"

"Did you forget about me, Agent Black? The man you set out to capture?"

"Alex!?"

"Right on! I just want you to know, you have a target on your back now, I'd be careful if I was you"

And with that, he hung up. I stared at the phone in my hand for a few seconds before dropping it onto the table. Agent White immediately took my hand "Who was that?"

"That was Alex, he was calling to let me know I have a target on my back...we're not out of the woods yet"
