The ride back to base was awkward, to say the least, with Agent White trying to talk to me every 5 minutes.
"Agent Black please, why do you keep ignoring me?" Agent White whined, getting the 50th glare from me since the car ride. "It was the kiss, wasn't it? I'm sorry ok! I act on instinct"
"And your 'instinct' was to kiss me?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You are mad about that! I knew it!" Agent White said, sitting back hard into his seat.
I sighed "It's not that I'm mad, it's just...you stole something from me that...I was saving for a special day and person"
"What!? I did not steal...wait...was that...your first kiss?"
I sighed again "Yeah...
"Oh...I'm sorry...I..."
My attention was suddenly caught by the driver's loud shout. When I looked up, I saw a car with a cobra symbol on its windshield rapidly approaching us. Before I could react, everything went black. When I regained consciousness, I saw Agent White lying motionless about 10 feet away from me, his forehead bleeding. As I sat up, I noticed several masked men around us. As I tried to stand up, I felt a sharp pain in my ankle, causing me to yelp and fall back down. Surprisingly, the masked men didn't come after me, but instead helped Alex up and led him to their car. With the bright sun in my eyes, I watched them drive off, leaving us stranded in the middle of nowhere.
"Agent White!" I shouted, inching closer to him. As I approached, I noticed that the cut on his forehead was more severe than I had initially realized. It required immediate attention as he was bleeding heavily. Fortunately, I wasn't wearing my suit, so I quickly tore a piece of my shirt's hem to use as a bandage to wrap around his head.
While I was finishing up wrapping the bandage, Agent White stirred and let out a groan as my fingers brushed against the swollen area on his forehead. He opened his eyes and sat up, startled to see me. "Please lay still, Agent White," I urged him. He reached out and touched my cheek softly, but quickly withdrew his hand, that now was lightly coated in blood. Concerned, I touched my cheek and discovered the same thing. I realized I must have been injured myself, but had forgotten about it when I saw how badly hurt Agent White was.
Sitting up, Agent White began checking his pockets and bringing out a pack of bandaids and a small cleaning kit. Lifting my chin up, he gently applied both, then sat back, putting the pack and kit back into his pockets and sighing "I got the cut on your cheek fixed up, but I can't do anything about your lip"
"My lip?"
"Yes, your lip. It's bleeding"
I quickly touched my lip and discovered he was in fact right. Groaning I dropped my hand and scooted over next to him. "Well, can you do anything about my ankle? It hurts really bad and I can't stand on it"
With a shrug, Agent White traced the source of my pain starting from my knee, causing me to gasp in discomfort. "I don't sense any broken bones, it's likely that you just twisted it," he said, to which I nodded. After ensuring that I was okay, Agent White quickly got up and helped me up. He placed his arm around my waist but suddenly paused. "Do you know where our driver is?" he asked, but I shook my head and replied, "I haven't seen him since the accident."
"Did you see the sign on the windshield? It was the Cobra! And speaking on the Cobra, where are they?"
I shook my head "They got away in another car with Alex"
"Alex? Why would they want Alex?"
"I don't know, and it didn't look like they were kidnapping him either, they were extremely gently and respectful"
"Hmm, we need to report back"
"We need to find the driver Agent White"
Well, we found him, at least his body.
"Agent White! Have you found anything?"
"Uh...Agent Black, you may want to come here"
"What is it?"
When I approached the scene, I realized what had happened. The driver was lying motionless, obscured by the tall grass, just a few feet away from where Agent White had landed. To my horror, I noticed that he had landed on a rock. "Is there any chance he's still alive?" I inquired nervously, placing my hand on my forehead. Agent White responded with a shake of his head, "No, I've already confirmed that he has no pulse."
I covered my face as tears spilled down my cheeks, it wasn't that the driver and I were super close, I had only known him for barely a day. It was the memories that came with this sort of death. Noticing that I was crying, Agent White quickly put his arm around my back and gently steered me away from the horrible sight. Drying my tears I asked in a shaky voice "What now?"
"We go back to the base"
"With what? We have no car, service, anything!"
"Simple, we walk"
"What!? We are miles out of the city!"
"We are precisely 10 miles outside of the city, according to my calculations, we should be able to make it there just as it is getting dark"
"Agent White, I have a hurt ankle"
"I made calculations for that"
"Fine, we need to start soon if we are going to make it there before nightfall"
