I'm pretty much on edge the entire day. I've hung out with Kenna plenty of times but for some reason, this time feels way different. I decide to give TJ a call since his shift at Onshore will be during my time with Kenna.
"Yo T, how's work?"
"What favor do you need now Wesley." Shit. How did he know?
"Listen, me and Kenna are going to stop by later, just be cool, okay? I don't wanna scare her away. And please make sure Easton isn't there or it will turn into a literal shit show." I'm practically begging at this point.
"Yeah yeah listen I gotta go, huge party just came in, at least 15 people bro. Gotta be some kind of incest-" Before I can even say another word, he hangs up. Great. Hopefully T got the message because Easton being there, listen, I love the dude to pieces, but he's one hell of a flirt.
The bell to the shop dings and I see Riley walk in.
"Hey, sorry I'm late I-"
"All good Riley! Door is behind you go on and head out." I say grabbing her shop keys from my hand.
"Wait what? I didn't plan on being late Wes It won't happen again."
"You're right, it wont happen again! Bye Calvin!" I reply instantly waving my hand in the air signaling her to leave.
She storms out of the shop attempting to slam the door but fails. Much better. But now I seriously need another employee in here. I barely even know how to work the damn register.
I decide to close up early so I can stop by the flower shop down the street before heading to meet with Kenna.
I hop in my truck starting it up when I see Kenna's jeep pulling up to the spot next to me. I roll down my window and she does the same.
"What are you doing here Kenny?" I say yelling over her loud music, some Taylor Swift song I think. She just looks at me smiling, turns off her car, grabs her school and surf bag and stars walking towards my truck.
I reach over the middle console opening up the passenger door and hold out my hand helping her up.
"Hi." I say cocking my head confused.
"Hi." Kenna replies breathing slightly heavy but a smile still glued to her face. She's still wearing my hoodie and my bandana on her ankle but put on another pair of distressed denim shorts. Her hair is in a braid on the side of her head and her ears are filled with gold hoops. She looks so pretty.
"I thought we could drive there together- I didn't really ask so maybe I should've texted you because I have your number now which I'm not sure how I got it, and thank you for the note and the hoodie and you're just so sweet and-" She pauses and looks at me waiting for an answer.
When silence completely fills the truck, I reach over her body grabbing her seatbelt and fastening it. Before pulling myself back fully to the drivers side, I whisper, "I like when you're nervous because then you ramble, and god I love your voice."
She looks up at me her lips pulling from each side from ear to ear. I love that she's always smiling.
We drive to Onshore, her hands out of the window, her music blasting, and she looks so happy. The drive is only about 15 minutes but I took the backroads so I could spend more time with her in the car. Seems to be the place where we have our best moments.
We pull up to the Onshore parking lot 30 minutes later, and as usual the second I park I sprint around the cab and open the door for her.
"Thanks bear." Kenna says giggling, as usual, taking my hand. Bear? I like it.
