Three Summers Later

I look out of my shop window, and see Kenna in her shop putting a bouquet together. A smile covers my face and just the sight of her gives me butterflies.

The sun is setting and the May air is warm and a perfect preview in to summer. I lock up Carter's and walk over to Ken's flower shop. Tons of customers walk around the space as Kenna and her employees attend to all of them.

I walk through the doors and the same bell that echoes through my shop, echoes through hers.

"Hi, welcome in!" Kenna says without looking up, I walk around the counter and wrap my arms around her waist.

"Hi baby."

"Wes! Hi I didn't see you!" She replies stopping what she was doing and throwing her arms around me.

"I was just about to leave, I wanted to make another bouquet for the house." She picks up the finished bunch of flowers and she amazes me with her talent more and more each day.

"Looks beautiful, Kenny."

"Thank you, Wes." She replies smiling. She clocks out and let's the employees take over as we start the walk to my truck.

I open the door for her and kiss her cheek once she's in. Noah, Elle, TJ, and Easton all surprised us by visiting our house in Big Sur earlier this week and we all decided to have dinner tonight.

After Ken's graduation we decided we wanted to stay in Channel for one more summer before moving. She taught surfing lessons over the summer while I maintained Carter's. We spent a lot of time with all of our friends all summer, before everyone split up for college.

Kenna and I have spent the last two summers building our dream home in Big Sur, which we built only a couple minutes away from our shops.

Deciding to move to Big Sur was one of the easiest decisions we've ever made together. The memories this place holds and our shops being here, it only felt right.

I pull into the driveway of the beautiful coastal white home and find Easton sitting on the front porch swing.

"Navy! I missed you, come here boy!" Kenna exclaims, hopping out of the truck. Navy sprints towards her and tackles her into the grass of our front lawn.

Kenna and I decided to get a dog last summer and it took her all but five minutes to convince me. A couple hours later we were walking out of the animal shelter with a baby golden retriever. Clearly nothing has changed, because I still don't know how to say no to Kenna.

"What about me little sis? Did you miss me?" Easton whines. Kenna giggles as Easton jumps on her back.

"To the kitchen!" Easton says pointing through the front door. I walk in with Navy while Kenna carry's Easton on her back through the large entrance.

I have to admit, the house is huge. Two story coastal build with 3 bedrooms and more windows than I can count. When we first went in to the building process, I asked Kenna what she wanted and all she ever said was.

"Our forever home."

"Gang is all here!" Easton exclaims hopping off of Kenna's back and on to a bar stool.
