I stalk towards Brecken with my fists clenched. To say I'm tired of him harassing Kenna and talking shit about her, is an understatement. I'm fed the fuck up.
I stop a few inches in front of Brecken and his eyes turn from playful to straight fear.
"I'm giving you one last warning Porter. Step any closer to Kennedy and I'll make your life a living hell." I threaten, barely bringing my voice above a whisper.
I break eye contact and look over at Kenna to make sure she's okay. She frantically shakes her head and mouths 'stop. please stop'.
Before I can say another word TJ's Dad, who owns the restaurant, walks over pulling Brecken back by his collar.
"Come here again, and it'll be the last thing you do son." Mike says walking Porter to the exit still holding a tight grip on his shirt.
Jake, Riley, and Kayla all follow him out, and god am I glad a huge fight didn't break out.
I'm proud of myself for not touching Brecken, but trust me, I would in a heartbeat if he said anything else to Kenna.
"Is this how all double dates go?" TJ jokes, Elle and Kenna giggle and we all sit back down at the table.
I take a few glances at Kenna to make sure she's okay, and I think she's just happy Porters gone. A lot of her early teenage years were spent with him so I'm sure it's been hard to cope with how much he's changed since then.
We stay for a few hours eating and talking before I tell Elle and TJ, that Kenna and I have to go home and pack for our trip.
The trip is only three days, I wanted to make sure Kenna didn't get uncomfortable with being gone for so long. There are so many cool spots in Big Sur I'm going to take her to and I can tell she's just as excited as I am.
"I'll see you guys when you get back, safe travels." TJ says hugging Kenna, we walk to the front say our goodbyes and I'm relieved to see my truck is untouched.
"Sorry about Brecken, I don't know why he does things like that." Kenna says quietly in the passenger seat.
"You have nothing to be sorry for love." I whisper back.
The drive home is quiet but not in a bad way. My hand is intertwined with Kennas as she grazes her thumb over my knuckles and a smile hits her face when she realizes we're in the Dunkin drive thru.
"Ugh. Just marry me already." Ken exclaims and throwing her arms around my neck stretching across the front seat.
The line for the drive thru is long so I pull into it and put the truck in park. I open up the middle console and pull out my bandana.
"What are you doing?" Kenna asks confused. I look up at her for a split second to smile, but I don't answer her.
I take the corner of the banana and rip a straight line of fabric off from one end to the other. I split the piece in half and grab her hand tying it around her ring finger.
I kiss her finger and hand her the other piece of the bandana. She ties the fabric around my finger and mimics the kiss.
"Can't believe I'm a Carter now ." Kenna says giggling and pulls my face towards her.
"You sound better with my last name anyways." I say smiling against her lips.
This bandana holds a lot of memories between Kenna and I. I've washed it since everything that it was used for, but having a piece of us on me from now on, makes me feel really good.
"OH MY GOD. We leave tomorrow! I have so much packing to do. I'm so excited!" Kenna says jumping up and down in her seat. I laugh and shake my head forgetting what caffeine does to her.
