"ms.jen" ricky ran into the theatre, completely out of breath having run from all the way on the other side of the camp "have you seen nini? i've been looking everywhere for her but—"

"she just left ricky, and she's not coming back" ms.jenn said, and ricky's heart dropped immediately

"what do you mean she's not coming back?"

"ricky—"

"what do you mean she's not coming back ms jenn?" ricky's voice raised slightly

"she's moving to LA ricky. she decided it's best for her music career" as soon as the words left Jenn's mouth ricky bolted out of the theatre hoping to catch the girl before she left.

it was pouring rain outside, and ricky was immediately drenched upon his first step outside, but he didn't care. there was no way she was leaving him without telling him. without saying goodbye.

ricky saw the headlights of her car heading towards the exit of the camp and without even thinking of the consequences or repercussions, he jumped in front of the car.

with the rain plopping against the windshield furiously, nini barely even had time to press on the breaks as she saw the figure appear in front of her car. if she slammed on the breaks even a second later, ricky would've been toast.

nini's heart picked up as her adrenaline rushed. after she was able to calm down, she squinted her eyes seeing the figure was still in front of her car.

those big brown eyes and what once was curly hair but now dampened by the rain could only belong to one person.

"Richard Michael Bowen what are you doing!?!? are you insane??I could've killed you" nini exclaimed as she slammed her car door

"no, are you insane nina? i mean, i know we broke up but we were best friends first. were you really gonna leave without saying goodbye? to me?"

"i couldn't say goodbye to you ricky-"

"do i really mean that little to you now that i'm not worth a goodbye?"

"what? ricky you've got it all wrong. you're the only boy i've ever loved in my life and the only one who really understood me for me. yeah we've had our fair share of problems but the deep love i felt for you never went away and it isn't going anywhere. how was i supposed to bring myself to say goodbye to you?"

"what about me nina? what about that emptiness i felt in my stomach hearing the words that you weren't coming back to salt lake?" ricky said, trying his best to keep it together, but the thought of her leaving had his stomach in complete knots

"how am i supposed to say goodbye to you when i am so madly in love with you!?" nini yelled and ricky ignored everything that was going on in his mind, walking up to her taking her face into his hands and placing a kiss on her lips.

he kissed her with such love and passion and want that she felt like she was floating. he managed to find the perfect medium between soft and delicate and aggressive and dominating. her heart was beating out of her chest as his touch felt so right.

she'd missed his touch and his lips so badly and didn't know how she had gone so long without them.

they separated only because they both needed air, and their foreheads rested against each other both of them now breathing heavily.

"i'm sorry i shouldn't have—" ricky started but nini shook her head

"i'm glad you did. i've always wanted to kiss in the rain. it's even more romantic than it is in the movies." she told him and both of them laughed lightly

nini leaned up and kissed him lightly

"don't forget about me when you're big and famous superstar"

"never in a million years" she responded

the two stood there in the same position for a while before nini finally spoke up

"it's getting late, maybe we should go back in—"

"no, we still have some things to talk about"

"ricky i don't know i-"

"we're gonna talk" he said not taking no for an answer

"okay, we'll let's at least get in the car. i don't want you to get sick" she said and he nodded.

"this isn't goodbye you know" nini told him "it's just see you later. i'll be back to visit. you know i could never stay away from you for long"

"and i'll be right here waiting for you" ricky offered her a smile "and by the way. i'm madly in love with you too. part of me always will be nini. i actually wrote a song about it, but for you to thrive i've gotta let you go. i can't be the one holding you back from your dreams"

"if it's meant to be, we'll find our way in the future when we've all got everything figured out" she said and he nodded "but promise me we'll always be best friends." she took ahold of his hand

"i promise"

"and i'll always come before minnie mouse"

"woah woah woah slow your roll there nini" he said and both of them chuckled before a silence fell in the car

"i love you" she told him

"i love you too" he said before he leaned over the dashboard and they gave each other one final hug.

he placed a kiss on her cheek before whispering in her ear "go be the superstar i know you can be" then he exited the car.

it wasn't until nini pulled off that the boy realized that she left something in his hand. in his hand was the boy's necklace she had given him a few months prior.

he'd always be the freaky callback boy to her freaky math girl.

the boys lips turned up into a grin before he placed the necklace around his neck, heading back into the camp.
