They sat in silence for another five minutes. Kai made sure to squeeze his hand every 30 seconds to let his boyfriend know hes okay. He regrets asking. It hurts him to watch Beomgyu sulk in the passenger seat. All Kai wants to do is stop the car and hug him right there but he knew it would make him more uncomfortable than he already was.

"You can see the stars now" Beomgyu says to break the silence. "They're so beautiful."

"Yeah. They are. If you find the little dipper and look about 10 stars left of the handle, you can see my star constellation. Or you can just look at the roof again." Beomgyu smiles and it relieves Kai's heart. He looks at the reflection in the passenger mirror and sees Beomgyu's eyes counting the stars, trying to find it. Seeing the stars in his eyes is something Kai will never grow tired of. There isnt another pair of eyes that reflects light the way his does.

Beomgyu finds the constellation and looks at Kai who seems to be lost in thought while driving. The moon lights up his face. He seems to impossibly glow. His black hair shines like rain on fresh pavement. Like a black diamond under the spot light. His shoulders were broad enough to carry the weight of the world, the weight of all of Beomgyu's worries and not crack. He fell in love with perfection and couldnt understand how perfection fell for him back. Kai made him feel safe. He turned the music off and decided it was time to tell him his version of what happened.

"Kai..."
"Yes honey?"
"Pull over please. Im ready to tell you."

Kai drove another mile and found an abandoned restaurant that the Huenings used to eat in as kids. The owners closed it 6 years ago after a wild fire swept the area and its been forgotten since. He pulled in, turned off the engine and gave Beomgyu his full attention.

"Before I start, please dont say anything until Im done talking." Kai grabbed a blanket from under one of the back seats and wrapped it around themselves and then nodded.
"Soobin took me"

Kai could hardly contain his rage but kept his promise not to say anything yet.

"I dont know why he took me but one day after baseball practice, he came up to me and asked if I wanted to hang out. I thought it was weird. We never hung out before. To be honest I kind of hated him because he was always with you."

Kai allowed himself a brief smile but then rage continued to fuel his mind. Soobin took him. This weekend would be Soobin's last weekend alive Kai thinks.

"He kept insisting and looking around like he was scared. I eventually said yes and when I got into the car, I was knocked out and woke up in a dark box in a tree."

Joshua's lookout. Soobin knew how much that lookout meant to Kai and his family. Good thing he's friends with an explosives expert. Cant find a body if it turns to mist.

"I saw Soobin in the corner looking out the window. He looked scared. I told him to let me go but he said he couldnt. It was either my life or yours Kai and he wouldnt dare risk yours."

Kai's rage turns to shock. Someone was trying to get him? Soobin saved his life? What does Beomgyu have to do with this? They didnt even talk to each other.

"It must have been three days until a man Ive never seen before walked in. Soobin fed me granola bars and water in the mean time but refused to let me go. I managed to escape my arm restraints once but Soobin caught me and tied everything even tighter."

Kai looked at Beomgyu's wrists again. The scars were deep. He couldnt imagine being bound like that for a week.

"I think the man was Soobin's brother but I cant be sure. I thought I heard him say "go home dad is waiting for you" to Soobin but it was really quiet."

Soobin was sick for three days Kai remembers. It lines up. The more he listens, the more he doesnt understand.

"After Soobin left the man began to kiss me and told me it was a taste of what was about to come. I tried squirming away but I couldnt so I bit his lip as hard as I could and thats when he stabbed me."

Rage. More rage. Kai was ready to go off with his .22 to Soobin's house right then and there. 10 bullets was more than enough. He only needed 1.

"He left afterwards. I think I almost bit his bottom lip off. I hope I did."

I hope you did too Kai thought.

"A couple days later he came back with another man much, much older. Said I was too old. He left and another man came in, even older than the one before. Men kept coming and going until one stopped and told Soobin's brother he would give him $10,000 for me."

Kai was close to puking. Nothing in his body felt right. He was torn between hugging Beomgyu and opening the drivers side door to release his insides although he doubt that wouldve helped.

"I started screaming hoping someone would hear me. Anyone. The man who bought me said my screams were beautiful and I stopped. He came and got close to my face and I headbutted him as hard as I could. I think I broke his nose. Next thing I know, I see a gun smack me against my head and I pass out again."

A brief moment of clarity comes to Kai. Beomgyu told him two important things. One of the guys is either missing a bottom lip or must have stitches in it. The other guy has a broken nose. He made mental note to tell these details to his parents. They may be divorce laywers but no one was going to represent Beomgyu better than them. His family was rich for a reason. He still didnt know how Soobin got caught up in this though but he does know that Soobin saved his life. He also tried to save Beomgyu.

"When I woke up it was raining hard. In a small way I got lucky. It seemed to rain for 2 days straight and one of the ropes that held my ankle grew really weak. I didnt know when they would come back so I kept pulling it until it snapped. I dislocated my ankle in the process but it gave me more freedom to move around. I used my teeth and eventually freed one of my hands and eventually I was completely free."

Kai looked at Beomgyu's ankle again and felt the pain as if it was his own. He looked at the scars on his wrists again and felt them digging into his own flesh. He looked at Beomgyu's face and reminded himself that he wasnt trapped. He was free.

"I fell out of the box trying to go down. My ankle hurt so much I contemplated cutting it off. I walked as fast as I could in any direction and eventually saw another box in a tree. It was like seeing a northern star. I knew if I kept following that direction, Id see some type of house. Admittedly I was not expecting one that absurdly large."

That look out was Kai's and he knew it. He fought off the urge to say "my cabin isnt that large". The loving feeling was returned again and he started to calm himself just as Beomgyu had.

"You know for such a fancy cabin, your security system is terrible. It wasnt hard getting into the back door. I eventually crawled my way up to your bedroom and passed out. You found me the next day."

Kai allowed Beomgyu a few more moments to see if his story was done. After he concluded that it was he started to filter all of the questions in his mind. Easiest ones first then get more personal then stop when Beomgyu was uncomfortable. But first, Kai pulled Beomgyu to the back seat and wrapped the blanket around both of them again. He hugged him and rocked him back and forth until he felt Beomgyu was ready to speak.
