Hailey and I raced each other down the sidewalk. As the hot wind blew my face, turned around to see how far ahead I was. Hailey was a few feet behind me, her short red hair blew in her face.
"Joseph, wait up!" She panted. I slowed myself down as Hailey lugged herself toward me. "I can't run with this dress," she remarked as she gestured to her thick violet dress that had a light coating of brown dust from running.
"Let's go into a shop," I suggested because I also was tired from running. We walked across the street when we heard a loud voice.
"HEY!" Called a deep voice. We both turned and saw a big man with a bushy black beard. He was riding on top of a wagon with a few boxes on it, the wagon was pulled by a dangerously thin horse.
"Hey!" He said again, "you two kids!"
"Yes?" Hailey said with a waver in her voice.
"Watch where you're going!" He screamed as his face turned red.
"Yes sir," I said as I yanked on Hailey's sleeve and we both sprinted into the nearest shop. I pushed the door open and we ran behind a shelf of porcelain plates. After a few seconds I stood up and observed the little shop. It wasn't very fancy, the floor was dusty and the wood looked old and rotten. Hailey and I walked over to the man at the counter.
Good morning sir," I said politely. He glared at me and grunted. "Well I guess we better get going!" Hailey said as she walked out the door. I started to follow when the man said something.
"Wait!" He said with a raspy voice. I slowly turned around and saw he was pointing a crooked finger at me.
"Umm, yes?" I said with curiosity in my voice.
"You want this?" He said as he pulled a silver bracelet out from under the counter. It has two items dangling from it. On item was a torch and the other was a torch but it wasn't lit. I reached over for the bracelet and when I touched it, it felt hit and my vision turned completely white and then, everything went black.
