We stumbled upon the secret late-night excursion by none other than Damien Dark, our fellow student whose mysterious aura had always intrigued me. I noticed his battle gear adorned with an intricate symbol—a feather.
"What do you think he's up to, Y/n?" Sebastian whispered. His voice tinged with concern. "He's always been a bit mysterious, but this seems different."
I frowned; my eyes narrowed as I observed Damien's movements. "I don't know, Sebastian. But we can't let him get away with whatever he's planning. We need to follow him and find out the truth."
We exchanged a quick glance.
"Let's follow him!"I ordered in a hushed voice.
Throughout the hole time we were following Damien behind, we kept our Charms on and a good amount of space in between. Our steps carefully slow to not make a single sound. My heart pounded in anticipation as I caught sight of a flickering campfire ahead.
Damien had arrived at a secluded clearing, surrounded by tall grasses, and sheltered by towering oaks.
Sneaking at late hours and the campfire reminded me of the time I tried to hunt down Rookwoods army. Just the thought of him sends shivers down my spine. The horrible memory of the battle we had, played in my head ending at Fig's death.
No, no. Not now. I can't be thinking of this.
My pulse accelerated so did my breathing. I tried to calm down, but I felt my whole body starting to shake. A wave of panic rushing all over my body.
"Hey, everything okey?"Sebastian asked in a low voice. He gently grabbed my arm as he was saying that. Ripping me out of my trance.
"All good."I reassured him.
Our gaze when back to Damien. We listened to Damien's soft mutterings. He spoke words of longing and desperation, as if pleading with an unseen force. Sebastian's brows frowned, and he exchanged a bewildered glance with me. Damien's words hinted at a deeper sorrow, a hidden pain that resided within him.
Out of nowhere a man in a mysterious mask and a long black cloak emerged from the darkness, his voice shrouded in secrecy.
"What's he waiting for?" I asked under my breath. My curiosity piqued. "And who's that man approaching him wearing a mask?"
Sebastian squinted. "I don't recognize the man, but something tells me he's not here for a friendly chat. Look at the way Damien's acting."
I strained my ears as I caught snippets of the conversation between Damien and the masked man.
"I promise to keep your family safe, Damien," the masked man said in a low, persuasive tone. "And teach you how to use you own ancient magic. All you have to do is help me find the rest of the ancient magic hidden away."
I gasped. For a moment time stood still. I took Sebastian's warm hand a squeezed it and he did the same to reassure me. I was uncontrollably shaking thinking they had heard me.
Me and Sebastian quickly looked at each other in pure shock. Damien Dark possesses the same ancient magic I possess. I couldn't believe it. All this time, he was searching for somebody that was like him, that could teach him. That's why he asked all those questions to Poppy. He didn't need my powers, he needed me. To help and to guide him. And maybe we could have helped each other out. It also explains with the first time we had met a spark of magic appeared as our hands touched on accident.
I refocused on the event playing in front of us.
Damien nodded, feigning reluctance. "But why do you need my powers? Can't you find it on your own?"
The masked man chuckled, a dark sound that made a chill run down my entire body. "Ah, Damien, my friend, your powers are unique. Together, we can unlock the true potential of this ancient magic. And with it, we shall become unstoppable."
I couldn't go through the same story again. It was the same situation just with different persons involved this time. The only thing that really changed in my story was that I had no mentor in my life anymore. No Fig.
"Come with me, a new life awaits you."The faceless man stretched out his hand. He put Damien in a position to choose but he truly only had one option and it was to take the masked man's offer. Damien stood still. Not moving one bit. It pushed me over the edge not knowing Damien's next move.
Will he take his offer or not?
"We must do something. We can't let him be forced to accept this deal!"I whispered to Sebastian.
"As much as I hate him, it thinks so too." He responded.
"At three we reveal our selves and get him out of this situation, even if you have to use our wands."
He nodded.
"1...2...3!"
We both jumped out of our hiding spot.
"Don't take his deal!"Was the first and only thing I thought of that I shouted at Damien. His eyes widen as he turned to my direction.
"You were supposed to come alone you idiot!"The stranger shouted at Damien. Damiens gaze goes back to the masked stranger.
"Y/n? Sebastian? What are you doing here? You don't understand... I had no choice. He promised to protect my family and help me understand my magic abilities. Y/n, you must understand of all people." Damien said with a pained expression.
Sebastian stepped forward; his voice laced with concern. "Damien, we believe you. But there's more to this than meets the eye."
Suddenly, the masked man grew impatient. "Enough of this! Damien, show them where your loyalty lies. Attack!"
Damien's face twisted with conflict, torn between his loyalty to his loved ones and his newfound allies. But he couldn't bear to harm me and Sebastian, especially knowing we were willing to help him.
The anonymous figure must have sensed his betrayal hastily gripped his wand.
I did the the same, Sebastian and Damien joining me.
"Three little children can't take me down. Stupefy!"The spell from the mysterious man barely passed between me and Damien.
"Expelliarmus!"
"Protego!"
Sebastian attempt to disarmed him did not succeed.
Spells went flying everywhere. We couldn't bring this individual down but the man in front of us blocked all the spells with ease .
"Sectumsempra"
I grunted and whimpered in pain. The spell hit me hard on my shoulder ripping through my uniform and flesh. The blood dripping down staining the sleeves of my white shirt. I couldn't give up even if I was sensing an excruciating pain. If we can't defeat him then we would need to distract him long enough to run away.
"Confringo!" A big explosion emerge in front of the masked men. "Run!"I screamed, hopping that it would distract the guy long enough.
