Chapter twenty-two
Jaanvi stepped out of the café ignoring Ayaansh's question. The bodyguard was just ahead of her—she really needs to stop calling him 'bodyguard'.
"Excuse me, may I know your na--?"
"Jaanvi!"
She groaned in annoyance at the interruption but stopped in her tracks nonetheless. When Ayaansh reached her, she tapped her foot impatiently.
"You didn't tell me if he—"
"Look Ayaansh, what happens to me is none of your business. I thank you for helping me back there but there was no need as he was there to protect me." She pointed at the bodyguard who seemed to be checking her surroundings.
"And about the second chance you were asking me about, just tell me why now after eight years? Did you miraculously have a change of heart after landing here? And if you didn't then why did you wait all these years? I just don't understand why you even need me to forgive you when you could go on with your life just fine." She watched as Ayaansh clenched his jaw at her words and she knew he wasn't angry at her, just upset at the situation.
"I can't tell you why or how but the only thing I can say right now is that I will earn this chance even if takes forever. I am not giving up Jaanvi." He said with a determined gaze which had her breath in shakily.
After he left, Jaanvi got in her car and left for her home, lost in her thoughts. She still could not understand why Ayaansh was hell bent on earning her forgiveness. Was it because he couldn't bear the weight of the guilt and wanted to get rid of the feeling? Or maybe he wanted to move on in life and their past wasn't allowing him to.
"We are here Miss." She heard the bodyguard say.
She thanked the driver and gotdown followed by the bodyguard, whose name she still didn't know. Just when she was about to enter inside, she stopped and turned to the man, "Thank you for protecting me and for agreeing to this job. I promise not to get into trouble intentionally." She smiled nervously seeing him standing there with a stoic face.
At her words, he just nodded and turned to leave but Jaanvi called out, "Wait!"
"May I know your name?" She asked.
The man didn't turn around but replied a minute later. "Mishkat."
"Okay, Mishkat—is it okay if I call you by your name?"
"Fine." His replies were a word or two but Jaanvi didn't mind too much.
"Okay so Mishkat I just wanted to inform you that I will leave for my college at eight tomorrow. I pick up my sister first and drop her at school. So, is it okay for you to be here at eight?" She was asking him because she could never order people around. It just wasn't her forte.
Mishkat grunted positively and then he was out of her sight. What a weird dude.
But later that night when Aditya was back, she got to know that she will no longer be driving her car anymore and Ayaansh will be dropping Kiara henceforth. It was maddening because what the heck? He pops out of nowhere and now she can't even drop Kia? Curse him!
Aditya told her that since the roads were now going to be wet and slippery in the rainy season, he was not going to risk her safety over that as well. Mishkat would drive her to and fro and she had no other choice.
And as if to prove his point, it started pouring heavily at midnight.
