Chapter thirty-two
The operation was a success.
After about five to six hours, the doctors had stepped out of the ICU and informed everybody that the surgery was successful. Lucas had asked Sahil and Srishti to follow him as he wanted to give them an update about Ayaansh's health.
As the two of them went with him, Jaanvi walked towards the room where Ayaansh was kept. She knew she wasn't allowed to enter without permission but her heart felt anxious as the prospect of not seeing him for longer. As her hand hovered over the door handle, a nurse stopped her and refrained her from entering the room.
She pleaded to allow her to see him just once but the nurse was stubborn and denied her, asking her to talk to the doctor for permission. Huffing, Jaanvi decided to do just that and ended up outside the doctor's cabin. Sahil and Srishti were still inside so she debated on whether she should wait or just go in.
In the end she decided to go in because waiting outside was just a waste of time. All four of them looked at her as she entered and she became self-conscious of their stares. "Um, I'm sorry to barge in here but I just wanted to ask if I could go and see Ayaansh once?" Her eyes darted between the Tarun and Lucas because as much as she wanted to look at Srishti and Sahil, she didn't want to meet their curious eyes.
"You can see him but not for long. We can only allow you to watch him from far." Lucas informed her and she readily agreed. "That is fine by me." Jaanvi nodded and then her eyes met Srishti's who gave her a warm smile.
She knew that Srishti was grateful and thanking her for being there but Jaanvi only smiled back in acknowledgement, telling her it was fine. Dr. Tarun then called a nurse and asked her to take Jaanvi to the ICU where Ayaansh was kept.

Jaanvi entered the room after she was given a mask to wear and the nurse accompanied her inside. Her eyes went to the figure lying on the bed and a gasp escaped her mouth seeing him. She blinked her eyes to keep the tears from escaping but how could she when Ayaansh looked so fragile and weak.
So many tubes were attached to him that she couldn't even see his face properly. As she cried silently, the nurse patted her back and she turned to her, "He will be fine. The surgery was successful so he will be kept here for a day or two after which we'll shift him to another basic room. Depending on his condition the doctors will decide on for how long he will have to stay in the hospital." Jaanvi listened attentively and then turned back to Ayaansh.
"Can I go close to him?" She whispered softly but the nurse immediately shook her head and ushered her out of the room.
"I'm sorry, it is for the patient's safety. You can meet him up close once he is out of the ICU." The nurse informed and Jaanvi thanked her before she left.
That was the last time Jaanvi saw Ayaansh because she stopped visiting the hospital completely. Not because she didn't want to see him or be there for him but because her exams were approaching fast and she wasn't nearly done. Or maybe she felt like whatever she had known was also washed out from her brain completely.
She only had ten days in hand for whatever preparations she had to do and she kept in touch with Pranav and Abir for updates about Ayaansh. The day after she had visited Ayaansh in the ICU, he was shifted to another room and within the next few hours he had gained consciousness.
According to Abir, the doctors had monitored Ayaansh's condition and he was fine except that he was expected to be under observation for the next ten days. And apparently, he was grumpy to be staying in the hospital for that long and wanted out just because the atmosphere suffocated him. Nobody listened to the guy and even Zaviyar who had been visiting Ayaansh, had called him a baby because he was throwing tantrums.
