Madhu ‘s POV
I slowly pushed my eyes open and groaned, inhaling the familiar scent that belonged to Mr. … No! Vasu, my Vasu. Mine alone... I think, no, I am one hundred percent sure he is the man I have been waiting for. I hugged him tightly and buried myself in his embrace. I drowned in thoughts of what had happened an hour ago—Vasu taking me for a check-up, blindfolding me, carrying me in his arms, and surprising me with this beautiful proposal. I couldn't help but smile.
"What are you thinking?" Vasu asked me. I jerked my head and found his gaze fixed on me. I could feel my face turning red as I started to blush. Clearing my throat, I buried my head into Vasu's chest and replied, "Nothing... I was just thinking about everything that happened an hour ago!" I said, holding his hand. Vasu smiled, stifling a throaty chuckle, and asked me, "Since when did you learn to be so shy?" Playfully, I punched his stomach and pulled away from the hug. He groaned and pulled me towards him, wrapping his arms around me. "Are you trying to escape from me?" Vasu asked, raising an eyebrow. I sighed and placed my hand over his. "I can't escape from you, and I won't," I told him, resting my head against him.
I chuckled and took a sharp breath. "What have you done to me?" I asked. "I don't know, sweetheart! Maybe you've worked some magic on me," he said. A smile formed on my lips as we continued to hold each other. Suddenly, my phone began to ring. I jerked up from the sofa and started searching for my bag. "Where is my bag? Where did I put it?" I started panicking and turned towards him . He is  also began searching for my bag. "Found it!" he  exclaimed. I turned my head and rushed towards him, trying to open my bag, but my hands were trembling.
"Hey... Hey... What's wrong with you, Madhu? Why are you trembling?" he asked, rubbing my arms. I closed my eyes and focused on breathing in and out, repeating the process a few times until I felt myself calm down, with Vasu still holding onto my arms. I opened my eyes and sighed, "Nothing... It's nothing. I'll just check who called me, and then we can talk." I leaned in and kissed Vasu on the cheek. He smiled and said, "Okay, fine... Carry on!" I nodded in response..
I walked over to the dinner table and sat down in a chair, knowing who the missed calls were from. I switched on my phone and checked the time - it was 7:15 PM. I sighed and unlocked my phone, only to gasp in shock at the sight of 25 missed calls. "Shoot! Shit!" I cursed myself. I checked the list of callers - my brother, my sister-in-law, my mother, my father, Talia, and Sharadha Ma. My heart was racing, and I didn't know what to do. How am  I going to tell everyone about my relationship with Vasu? I felt like I was going to have a panic attack. I stood up from my chair, and my body began to tremble. My legs were giving out on me, and my breathing was rapid. I started to focus on my breathing, trying to calm myself down.
I felt a hand on my shoulders, knowing it belonged to Vasu. He gently turned me around to face him and cupped my face. He gasped, "Heyyy. Heyyy... What's wrong with you, sweetheart? Talk to me, please. I can't see you like this," he pleaded. I lifted my head to meet his gaze and hugged him tightly. I was filled with fear about how I would tell my family about our relationship, and what Sharadha Ma would think of me. He hugged me back and caressed my head. "Sweetheart, can you tell me what's wrong?" he asked, pulling me gently from the hug. He cupped my face and brushed away the tears that were rolling down my cheeks. I leaned into Vasu and hugged him, wrapping my arms around his waist, finding solace as my head rested on his chest.
I sighed heavily, "Family, Vasu... What am I going to tell them about our relationship? And what about Sharadha Ma? What will she think of me?" I expressed my concerns. I could hear Vasu's heart beating steadily, contrasting with the chaos in my own chest. "I don't want to lose you!" I cried, the tears streaming down my face. The thought of losing him was unbearable.
He held me tightly, providing comfort, and kissed my forehead. "You won't lose me, sweetheart! I promise you that," he reassured me with a gentle chuckle. I pulled back slightly from the hug, lifting my head to look at his face. Confusion filled me ‘’ how can he be so clam , when you are dying in fear of losing him’’ my mini me said .
I furrowed my brows and confronted him, "It's not funny! I'm terrified of losing you, and now you're laughing at me. What if our families  don't agree for  our relationship?" I asked and took a step backward. He sighed , took a step forward ‘’ Just calm down ! We will get through this , I promise you ‘’ he said and hold my arms. I jerked my hands away from him, feeling a mix of frustration and confusion. "How?" I asked, then ran towards the living room. I sat on the sofa, deep in thought, wondering "How can you be so calm, Vasu?" I whispered to myself, unable to comprehend his demeanor. I covered my face with my hands, feeling lost.
Just then, my phone began to ring. This time it was my father calling. I answered the call, "Yes, Papa!" I responded, my voice reflecting my restlessness. "Madhu! Beta, where are you? Why aren't you answering the phone? When will you be home?" he asked anxiously.
I knew that whenever my father called, I would always answer, no matter how busy I was. I sighed and closed my eyes, preparing myself for the conversation. "Papa... Yes, I'll be home in 30 minutes. I'm nearby. There's something I want to talk to you about," I told him, my voice filled with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. "Okay, beta. Come home first, and then we can talk," he replied. I let out a sigh of relief. "Okay, Papa. Love you," I said before hanging up the phone.
I placed my phone aside and covered my face with both hands. Sensing Vasu's presence, I could feel him standing in front of me. He knelt down, gently taking hold of my hands.
Vasu’s POV
When Madhu's phone started ringing, I had a pretty good idea of who it would be. She was sitting in the dinner area, lost in her thoughts. I knew she was contemplating how to break the news to her family and my mother about our relationship. With a sigh, I smiled to myself, thinking, "Sorry, sweetheart! The surprises of the day aren't over yet!"
I reached into my pocket, taking out my own phone. I dialed Karan's number and waited for him to answer. After a few rings, he picked up. "Karan! Can I ask you one more favor?" I asked him.
"Yes! Future brother-in-law!" I couldn't help but smile broadly upon hearing those words. Clearing my throat, I continued, "Listen, she's been thinking about how to tell you all about our relationship." Karan responded confidently, "That won't be a problem because we have already accepted you!" His words filled me with relief and joy. "But she doesn't know that," I added, chuckling softly.
"Exactly after ten minutes, ask Papa to call her and inquire when she will reach home. After that, Madhu and I will arrive at your home," I explained to Karan. He seemed to be taken aback and stammered, "Vasu! I can sense your mischievousness in your voice! What are you planning?" He sounded both curious and anxious. Chuckling, I replied, "Tell your family and my mother to play a little prank by pretending to be against our relationship."
Karan's voice escalated as he yelled at me, expressing his concern and frustration. "Hey... dumbass! Have you gone crazy? If she thinks that we're against your relationship, it will break her, you idiot!" he exclaimed. Before he could continue, , "No... No, I won't...’’ I cut him off  ‘’ Listen, I'm telling you to prank her a little, but not to cross the line. I'll be there, and if I sense that it's going too far or she can't handle it, I'll tell her the truth myself." Karan let out a sigh, seemingly relenting. "Okay, fine. But if my sister gets hurt in the process, I'll kill you. And if she finds out it was your idea, she'll probably join me," he warned, a mix of concern and playful threat in his voice. I rolled my eyes and replied, "Karan, I have to go." With that, I ended the call.
I went to the dinner area where my girl was standing and stood in front of her. She didn't realize I was standing there; it seemed like she was lost in deep thoughts. I placed a hand on Madhu's shoulder, turned her around, and cupped her face. She appeared fearful and was breathing heavily. "Hey... What's wrong with you, sweetheart?" I asked her. Without hesitation or reply, she hugged me tightly, indicating her fear. I pulled away from the hug and gently brushed away the tears rolling down her cheeks. She slowly lifted her head to meet my gaze and wrapped her arms around my waist. She remained silent for a while and then sighed, ‘’ family Vasu!’’ .
She told me and buried her head into my chest. I held her tight and started to imagine how she would react after finding out that my mother and her family had agreed to our relationship. Lost in my thoughts, I heard a whisper from Madhu, "I don't want to lose you, Vasu!" She began to cry. I hugged her tightly, caressed her back, and kissed her forehead. "You won't lose me, sweetheart! I promise you that," I reassured her with a chuckle. She jerked away from the hug and started arguing with me. She asked what would happen if my mother and her parents didn't agree to our relationship. I told her to calm down and promised that we would overcome this. Curious, she asked, "How?" and then ran towards the living room.
I smiled and said to myself, "Sorry, sweetheart, for upsetting you, but you have to wait for the surprise." As I smiled, her phone suddenly rang, and she answered it, saying, "Papa..." She informed him that she would be home in 30 minutes and hung up.That’s it , end of drama . I walked toward the living room where Madhu was. Kneeling down, I gently took her hand away from her face, and she opened her eyes.
I smiled, resting my head against hers and interlocking my fingers with hers. Releasing a sigh, I closed my eyes and asked her, "Do you think if I lose you, will I be able to hold myself?" She stammered, "Vasu... I..." Chuckling softly, I said, "No, sweetheart, I couldn't." I kept my head against hers, feeling her gaze on me. "Okay! Go and freshen up," I told her as I stood up. "We are going to your home now, and we will tell them about us !" I said with a smile. Suddenly, she jerked up from the sofa. "What! You're joking, right? Have... you...," she continued to stammer.
I held her tightly by the waist, our bodies close together, and I could feel her breath. "Listen, sweetheart, we will go and tell them. Let's see what their reaction is. Let's not assume anything ourselves," I reassured her. She continued to stutter, which I found incredibly endearing. I pressed her even closer to my body, causing her to gasp. "Sweetheart, if you don't stop stuttering right now, I swear to God, I will definitely kiss you. And when I do, you won't be able to escape my grip," I playfully warned her with a mischievous smile on my lips. Her eyes widened, and she covered her mouth in surprise. "Even if you cover your mouth, I can still do it because you're adorable when you stutter, babe," I teased.
Madhu's face turned red, and she buried her head into my chest. I chuckled and kissed her hair gently. "Okay, go and get ready. We have to go to your home now!" I whispered to her. She looked up, slightly puzzled. "What?" she asked. "Don't ask anything, just go and get ready," I replied with a wink. She nodded in understanding. As I released her from the hug, she quickly ran into the bathroom to prepare herself.
After she left, I picked up her bag and began putting her belongings inside. As I gathered her files, one slipped from my hand, and I cursed under my breath. I bent down to retrieve it, but as it opened, I realized it was Madhu's certificate file. I wondered why she had it with her. Inside the file, I discovered an envelope with the NYPD seal on it. I took hold of it, a smile forming on my face. Just as I held the envelope, the bathroom door swung open, and there she stood, looking shocked to see the NYPD envelope in my hands.
She dropped the towel and hurried towards me, flustered. "I was going to tell you that..." she started to say, but I just smiled at her. "I know, sweetheart! By the way, the day after tomorrow, we can go and submit this application together!" I informed her. She gasped in surprise and then hugged me tightly. "Thank you!" she exclaimed with a joyful giggle.
I reminded her that we needed to head back to home as it was getting late. She gathered all her belongings, trying to calm herself, and then held my hand firmly. "Now I'm ready," she declared with a forced smile. We began walking through the parking lot, making a slight turn towards her designated parking spot. Suddenly, she jerked her hand away from mine and gripped my forearms with both hands, coming to a complete stop. She stood there, motionless.
I gave her a comforting touch by gently rubbing the back of her hand. "What happened? If you want to take it slow, we can talk to them later, Madhu," I assured her. She lifted her head to meet my gaze. "I'm feeling a bit nervous. How am I going to handle this situation? Whether it's today or later, they will eventually find out about us," she expressed, resting her head on my shoulder. I sighed softly. "You're not alone in this. We will handle this situation together, sweetheart," I reassured her.
Madhu’s POV
I was terrified as I contemplated how my family would react upon hearing my confession. My heart was racing uncontrollably, filled with anxiety. While I believed I could handle my father, sister-in-law, and Talia, I relied on Vasu to handle my brother and Sharadha Ma. Thoughts of my mother crossed my mind, and I could only hope that my father would take care of her. Fingers crossed, I hoped for the best in this uncertain situation.
Lost in my thoughts, I was startled by the sound of the doorbell, "Ding Dong." I turned to see Vasu standing beside me, observing my nervous expression. He gently brushed a strand of hair aside and smiled at me, his fingertips grazing my temple and trailing down to my cheek. I leaned into his touch,’’ Everything will be fine sweet heart !’’ Suddenly, we both pulled away as we heard a throat clearing sound. "Oh my God, mamma ..." I gasped, realizing the timing of her arrival. "Is this the time for you to come home, Ms. Madhu Krishna?" my mother questioned me. ‘’ You are dead babe ‘’ my mini me said . I swallow a lump.
