Vasu’s POV
I was waiting in the cafeteria for Madhu. I bought her a sandwich and coffee. As I built up my confidence, I called the agency I had booked for decorating my home. I had planned a small surprise - a pathway adorned with rose petals for her to walk on and a candlelight dinner featuring her favorite food: noodles, paneer tikka, and orange juices. Lost in my thoughts, suddenly I heard a voice behind me, "Mr. Vasu."
I took a deep breath and turned my head. There she stood, wearing a white churidar that flowed down to her toes, adorned with a multicolored shawl. Around her neck, she wore a black metal necklace, and her earrings dangled gracefully just above her cheeks. In one hand, she wore bangles, and in the other, she held a watch. Her hair was partially secured with a clutch clip, with the rest cascading down, grazing her forearms. She looked simply beautiful.
Without realizing it, my stupid legs started to move towards her , and my hands reached for the clip, removing it. I gently adjusted her hair, ensuring it fell perfectly and framed her face. "Now it's perfect," I smiling at her. I could see the confusion in her eyes.
Taking Madhu's hand, I interlocked my fingers with hers. "Where are you taking me?" she asked, her voice filled with restlessness.
I turned my gaze towards her and replied, "I'll tell you. But first, we have to get out of here." With that, I led her towards the parking lot, eager to embark on our next adventure together.
She remained silent, not uttering another word. As we reached the parking lot, she abruptly jerked her hand away from mine, leaving me shocked and bewildered. I turned my head towards her, trying to comprehend her sudden change .
"Kindly tell me, where are you taking me? Why are you doing this to me?" she questioned me, her voice filled with a mix of confusion and fear.
"Madhu, what are you talking about? I don't understand," I pleaded with her, desperately trying to make sense of the situation. Her fear and confusion were palpable, and it pained me to see her like this.
"This... Mr. Vasu... This... this care towards me! Why? Why?" she asked, her voice quivering as she fought back tears. I let out a sigh, realizing that I needed to find a way to reassure her.
I took a step towards her, intending to offer comfort, but she took a step back, creating more distance between us.
"Please don't move," I pleaded in a soft and voice. Surprisingly, she remained still. I stood before her, closing the gap between us, ensuring there was no space between our bodies. Her hands tightly clutched onto her handbag, I sense the sign of her nervousness.
Gently, I held her cheek , my thumbs tenderly brushing away the tears which streamed down her cheek, my heart ached to see her in distress.
"I will tell you everything. Whatever questions are running in your head, you can ask me. Okay? But not here. I want to take you to a place where I can answer all your questions," I explained to her, our eyes locked in a sincere gaze.
I gently removed my hand from her face and instructed her, "Go and sit in the car. I will join you in a bit. I need to make a phone call." Madhu nodded in response, her expression a mix of curiosity and uncertainty.
I sighed, took my phone from my pocket, and called Karan. After a few rings, he picked up. "Have you told her?" he asked. "No,. She is scared, and I don't know how to handle her. Now I am scared!" I told him in panting. "Dumbass, you've got this. She will be scared because no one cares for her the way you do. You know what? It's better I will call and tell her about you," he said. I stammered over the phone, "No... No... you won't... I will... I will tell her." I said to him, "Tell her!" he said and hung up. I sighed, composed myself, and got into the car. I drove out from the parking lot and onto the highway.
I am taking her to my home only, but she shouldn't know about it. I took a different route to avoid any suspicion. She remained silent throughout the drive. After a while, I stopped the car. She turned her head towards me and I said, "Can I ask you a favor?" She nodded. I handed her a blindfold and said, "Kindly wear it, please. There's a surprise for you." Her eyes widened as she asked, "What?... Blindfold?" I smiled "No worries, sweetheart." However, she didn't put it on. "Until you wear it, I will not drive," I firmly told her. She furrowed her brows "Okay, fine," she said softly and put it on.
I sighed. My home is only a few minutes away from where we are now. Finally, I reached home and parked the car in the parking lot. Madhu was attempting to remove the blindfold. "No... No... Not now. Don't remove it until I say so," I told, grabbing her hand just as she was about to remove the blindfold. "Okay, fine... But how am I going to get down from the car?" she asked. I scoffed and replied, "That's why I'm here. I'll help you." I got out of the car and pushed the door open. Her hands were in the air, trying to find something to hold onto for support. I held her hand and assisted her in getting out. She was trembling, and I could sense her fear. If she tried to walk like this, she would surely fall. There were no other options.
"Madhu, wait a sec," I groaned as I lifted her into my arms. "Vasu, what are you doing? Let me down... I'm scared... or at least let me remove the blindfold!" she yelled at me, but I didn't answer. I walked with her in my arms to my front door from the parking lot. Upon reaching the front door, I gently placed her back on her feet. She was now fine. I pushed the door open and was stunned by the decoration inside. It was simply as beautiful as my girl. Shaking myself from my thoughts, I offered her my assistance to enter the home.
After reaching inside, I grabbed the bag from her hand and loosened the blindfold. I moved to the other side where she couldn't find me. After removing the blindfold, she was stunned and opened her mouth, covering it with her hands. I could sense that she was confused and her eyes were filled with tears. "What is this all about, Mr. Vasu?" she blabbered. "Mr. Vasu...please come in front of me...what is this all about?...Come on...Vasu...please...don't play with me...please, I beg you, don't play with my emotions, Mr. Vasu...pl...eas...e." She was stammering, covering her face with her hands and started crying. That's it, I couldn't see her cry anymore. I came forward with a bunch of flowers in my hand.
"Hey...hey...shhh...shhhhh...I'm not playing with you, sweetheart! Seriously, there's something I want to tell you... I mean, everything, but on one condition. Please don't say anything until I finish," I told her. Her eyes widened, she took a step back, and shook her head. "No... I want to go home .. please…," she said, sobbing and trembling. I sighed. "Please, let me talk... sweetheart! After I'm done, you can do whatever you want, please..." I pleaded with her. Her eyes welled up with tears, but finally she agreed. "Okay, Mr. Vasu," she said, wiping the tears with her hands. She slowly started calming herself.
"Okay... First thing, hereafter don't call me Mr. Vasu. I am not a superior to you or an elder man to address me as Mr.," I said, taking one step towards her. "Listen, when I saw you for the first time at the airport, I fell in love with you... you can call it as love at first sight," I said, chuckling nervously, and continued. ‘’But when I came to know that you are my partner's sister, I was shaken to my core. So, I had to back off. The reason I backed off is that I didn't want to spoil your bond with your brother. But over time, my love for you didn't fade away, sweetheart. It only grew stronger and stronger, to the point that no one can replace you in my heart," I spoke, with just a breath's distance from her.
Her eyes were filled with tears. My hand reached her cheeks and gently brushed away her tears. I took one step back, got down on one knee, and held the flower in front of her. "I love you, Madhu Krishana, just the way you are, and I will always love you till my last breath," I finally proposed to her. I could sense that she was in shock.
Madhu’s POV
I was stunned, surprised, and incredibly happy. I couldn't express my feelings at that moment. Vasu loves me. My heart was racing uncontrollably. Vasu had just proposed to me. "What the heck are you doing? He is officially yours now, you idiotic girl. Go on and confess everything," my mini me said. I took the flower from his hand and set it aside. I kneel down and drag myself to him .I wrapped my arms around him , my head rested on his shoulders and hugged him . He didn't wait to hug me back; he hugged me tightly so I couldn't escape, and I didn't want to escape this time. "I am still waiting for your answer, sweetheart," he whispered into my ear. "He is yours now; just tell him once and for all," my mini me short back angrily .
"I love you too, and you have no idea. I've been in love with you since the day I met you at the airport," I told him, and Vasu pulled away from the hug. "What?" he asked, his expression filled with surprise. He stood up and extended his hand to help me stand on my feet. "Tell me everything from the beginning!" he requested, wrapping his hands around my waist and drawing me closer. I placed my hands over his coat and held onto it tightly.
"I am in love with you since the day I met you at the airport. When my brother introduced you as his partner, I backed off. But as time passed, I tried so hard not to fall in love with you, but I couldn't," I sobbed. "I was afraid of what might happen if I approached you, what if... what if you rejected me. It would have shattered me, and I wouldn't have been able to handle myself. Even though I didn't say anything to anyone, my brother would have found out. And after that, it would have affected my brother's friendship and partnership, as well as our parents' relationship... So, considering all of this, I decided to hold myself back," I said between sobs.
Vasu's one hand held my waist tightly, and the other one held my cheeks, his large thumb wiping away the tears. "Crazy girl! You have tortured yourself too much. You are the most precious one to me, who needs to be taken care of. I am so sorry, sweetheart. I don't know what I have done to make you think that I would reject you," he said and placed his forehead against mine.
I didn't know what to say, and I was stammering, "I... I don't..." while sobbing. Vasu sighed and gently said, "Shh... Shh... Shh... It's okay, I am here for you. Always and forever. Stop crying, I can't see you cry anymore. Because you are mine," he said keeping his forehead against mine and tightening his grip around my waist.
I found myself smiling and said, "I love you... so much... I love you to the moon and back, Vasudevan Prabakaran." He smiled back, lifted me up, and started spinning me around in the living room. After he gently placed me back down, he tried to catch my gaze, but I felt too shy and tried to avoid his eyes. "Look at me, Madhu," he requested. Finally, gathering the courage, I looked into his eyes. Suddenly, he kissed my nose, and we remained in a warm embrace for a while. I didn't want to leave his arms, but my stomach growled, indicating my hunger. "Can I ask you something?" I inquired.
Vasu’s POV
After her confession that she loves me too, I felt a surge of happiness. Finally, my heart was beating normally again. We remained in a warm embrace for a while, and I didn't want to let her go. Suddenly, she asked me, "Can I ask you something?" I nodded in response. "I've been hungry since afternoon, I haven't eaten anything. My stomach is started to making sounds," she said, and I burst into laughter. "It's not funny, Vasu," she said, blushing slightly.
I gently removed my hand from her waist and turned her around. Her back now rested against my chest, and I placed my head over her shoulder with my hands on her waist. Inhaling her scent sharply, I whispered, "The dinner is ready, sweetheart!" and planted a gentle kiss on her neck, eliciting a gasp from her. "Go and freshen up, I'll prepare the table," I told and she nodded in response.
After a while, she emerged from the bathroom and began searching for me in the kitchen. "Over here," I called out from the dining area. She hurriedly ran towards me and held onto my arms. "What's for dinner?" she asked, and I kissed her on the forehead. Just then, my phone started vibrating, indicating a notification. I grabbed my phone, and upon seeing that it was from Karan, I said to her, "Take a look for yourself. I have to take this call." She nodded understandingly.
I entered the living room and called Karan. After a while, he picked up the phone. "Yeah, buddy," I answered him. "What happened, Vasu? Did you tell her or not? And why do I see your car in your parking lot? Dumbass, where are you?" Karan asked me in a panic-stricken tone. "Whoa... Whoa... Buddy, I'm in my home. See for yourself," I assured him and moved the curtains aside to reveal the living room. "What the hell are you doing? I'm going to kill you, idiot! Open the door now! If you're at home, then where is my sister? Answer me now!" Karan kept shouting over the phone. "Vasu! How much longer will you be on the call?" Madhu asked me from the dining area. "I'm coming, Madhu!" I told her. I saw Karan from the window of the living room and raised one eyebrow. "If she's with you, that means you told her, and her answer is yes," Karan asked me over the phone. "Yes, buddy. I'll talk to you later. My girl is waiting for me! Bye," I said and hung up the call.
After reaching the dining area, she expressed her delight, saying, "You've ordered everything! These are all my favorite foods." She smiled as we began to enjoy the meal, engaging in conversation with each other. Once we finished dinner, we cleared the dishes from the dining area and headed to the kitchen. After cleaning up, we made our way back to the living room. I sat on the soft couch, and she sat beside me. I gently removed her hair, which she had tied up in a bun. "Come here," I said, opening my arms, inviting her for a warm embrace.
She nestled herself into my arms, which were always ready to embrace her, and rested her head on my chest. "You have no idea how long I've waited for this moment," I told her, feeling the weight of her body against my chest and locking my gaze with hers. "Me too," she whispered in response. I gently brushed her hair away from her face. We sat on the sofa, holding each other tightly, in a comfortable silence, not needing words to convey our emotions.
We were engaged in conversation, discussing the events of the day, some of which were quite extraordinary. As we talked, I noticed her starting to yawn, a familiar response for her whenever she had cried excessively. She made an effort to keep her eyes open, but she failed “Now go to sleep sweet heart !” I said . She shook her head in reluctance. "I'm afraid of closing my eyes... What if this is just a dream?" she expressed her fears. I held her tightly, wrapping my arms around her. "It's not a dream, my love... It's as real as can be... In fact, it's incredibly real... Now, my beautiful and crazy girl, it's time to sleep... I am completely yours! I promise that when you wake up, you'll still be in my arms," I reassured her , after a while she falls asleep , but I didn’t I started to slowly caressers her hair.
