I sensed Vasu moving towards Suresh, but I stopped him by grabbing his hand. "Let me handle him... calm down," I told him. He turned his head towards me and hesitated for a moment, but I shook my head. I sighed deeply and walked towards my mother. "Is this another plot to break me? I know something is off about them, and you’re aware of it. And just so you know, if they’re here to break me again, I won’t let it happen!" I told her firmly.

From the corner of the living room, I heard a chuckle from that bastard. "Don’t make yourself more important than you are; you’re nothing but a waste in this family," he said with a smile.

He really knows how to get under my skin. I noticed Meenu standing in the corner of the room, clutching her teddy bear, her face growing pale. This wasn’t normal, and whatever was happening—or about to happen—shouldn’t happen in front of her. I had a bad feeling things were about to get nasty. I closed my eyes, sighed deeply, and said, "Get her out of here… right now, please," keeping my eyes fixed on him. I watched as the caretaker took her inside.

I sensed the tension rising among everyone in the room. "No one say a word... let him talk. I want to hear it," I said, folding my arms across my chest.

He laughed at me. "You’re not that important in this family... so I’m wondering why everyone is trying to protect you, bitch? I don’t really understand what they all see in you, breaking all ties with us—especially me! Because of you, everyone blamed me for breaking the marriage with you! I want to know, what did you do? Or what did you give..."

Before he could say another word, in the blink of an eye, I grabbed a nearby flower vase and smashed it over his head.

I had been trying to hold myself back for a very, very long time—the frustration, the anger, the rage toward him... enough of it. I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I was breathing hard.

"Wow," Vasu and my brother said in unison. I heard gasps and murmurs around me. Suresh screamed in pain, clutching his head with both hands. When his mother approached, I warned her, "If you try something, I have plenty of vases in my home!" Her eyes widened, and she took a step back.
"Madhu, what are you doing?" my mother screamed at me. "Stop acting like a child—behave!" she yelled. I shot her a daggered look. "Stay out of it, Mama!" I yelled back. My father quickly pulled her to his side.

I grabbed Suresh by his collar. "You're lucky I didn't go harder on you. This is for hurting me... I should have done this earlier. If you ever try me again, remember—I’m not the Madhu you knew years ago!" I said and shoved him away. "Take him out of here!" I yelled at his mother. They both stormed out of our home.

My mother grabbed my hand. "What was that all about?" she asked. I furrowed my brow. "What you should have done for me earlier! You should have stood up for me!" I said, snapping my hand out of her grip. I was about to say more, but my father shook his head, silently reminding me to stay calm. I closed my eyes and sighed. "I'm leaving... Take care of yourself. Take your medications on time... You're my mamma, and I'll always love and respect you, even if you don’t," I said, giving her a gentle hug.
I saw my father walking towards me with a proud smile on his face. I pulled away from her and approached him. He came to my side, wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and walked me towards the front door. "You handled that very well... But the vase thing was a bit much, Madhu," he said. I lifted my head to meet his gaze. With a smile, he added, "If you ask me, though, I think you should have smashed another one on his head!"
I chuckled, and he hugged me tightly. "Take care and be careful," he whispered into my ear and kissed my hair. I held him tightly for a moment and nodded. Then I pulled away and walked out.
Suddenly, my surroundings began to spin, and I tried my best not to lose my balance. Arms wrapped around me, and I heard Vasu’s reassuring voice in my ear. "I got you... I got you," he whispered. I exhaled and leaned on him as we started to walk towards the car. We both settled into the back seat, and my brother joined us. Once we were all settled, the car drove off from the parking area.
