Vasu's POV :

Excuses? By her, it definitely won't work because she is not good at lying. Somehow, I managed to sway her with my side of the story because telling her the truth is not going to work, according to Mangus. Finally, I convinced her to go to The Institute. What I said to her is fifty percent truth and fifty percent lie. If I tell her that her life is in danger because of something called magic, she won't believe it. However, if I tell her that her life is in danger because of me, she will do anything I say for my sake. I know my girl that well.

But it's true; her magic got triggered because of me. Finally, she agreed to go to the institute. While I went to get her a blanket, I called Magnus and informed him that we would be there by tomorrow night. I also told him that she had started trembling from the cold. He instructed me to stay with her because once her awakening is triggered, without proper guidance, she needs to be contained until she figures out her witch side. He also added that I should be with her because of the true mate bond. I don't believe it, but one thing's for sure: she is my true soulmate.

So many things need to be worked out: her job and informing the families about her stay away. I am really nervous about what she is going to say. "Plenty of thoughts?" Karan said, bringing me back to reality. "Thinking about what she is going to say?" I replied with a heavy sign. We were both still at the front door. He smiled, "Let's see then!" and walked past me. I sighed in frustration and walked towards the living room. "Vasu! Come on..." Madhu's father called out in excitement, but it didn't last for long. "What happened to you?" he asked, dropping the paper he was holding. He came near me and I assured him saying, "Papa, I am fine. It's just a scratch. I got hit during field duty." After my assurance he signed in relief.

We both walked towards the living room, and I sat on a single sofa. My eyes roamed over the house, searching for Madhu. Finally, I saw her coming from the kitchen with Priya. They both served coffee to everyone, and Madhu handed me a cup of black coffee before sitting on the armrest of the sofa beside me. She cleared her throat. "I need to say something " she said, making me nervous. I adjusted myself on the sofa, and the whole family's attention was on her. I was surprised. She didn't flinch. "Ahem... you all know that I am going to join the NYPD soon. So, as per their protocol, they are sending me to a training program," she explained. I jerked my head towards her, but her gaze remained on the family. "What!" her mother exclaimed in shock.

She slowly lifted from the sofa. "Yes, Mama, please don't freak out," she said, placing the coffee cup on the side table. My eyes shifted from her to her father, who was attentively listening. He removed his glasses and asked, "How long, beta?" Suddenly, I felt she was growing nervous; she might lie to anyone but not to her father. I sighed. "Maybe ten to fifteen days," she replied said. He nodded and asked, "When are you leaving, Madhu?" while putting his glasses back on. She sighed and stammered, "Tomorrow... Papa." Inwardly, I smiled. Actually, I had to admit her cover story was better than ours. "Ahem... I'm also leaving tomorrow for the head office for a briefing. After that, I'll be flying to Washington for official work," I said, and everyone in the house fell silent.

I sighed. "I know what you're thinking. We're not going together; we both have to be in our respective places for official work," I explained. My gaze fell on my mother, and she gave me a dagger look, filled with concern. She cleared her throat and said, "You two can go wherever you want, but under one condition." I narrowed my eyes. "What is it?" I asked with curiosity.

My mother moved in her wheelchair towards Madhu. She stopped in front of her and grabbed her hand. "Can I ask you something?" she asked Madhu. Madhu knelt in front of my mother. "Of course, Ma," she said without hesitation, making my mother smile. "We've fixed your engagement," my mother said. Madhu's eyes widened, and she stood up, her face filled with all kinds of emotions. Her eyes roamed around the family and finally locked with mine.

I closed my eyes and sighed. "Ma, can I talk with you alone for a moment?" I asked in a frustrated tone and stood up from the sofa, walking towards my mother. "Sharadha Ji is right! Get engaged and go wherever you want. We will not stop you," Madhu's father's voice came from behind. I stopped abruptly and turned my head towards him. "Papa, we are just going..." He cut me off, "This is your family's decision! Do you have any objections?" He asked me, raising his brow.

I couldn't say no because she is my world, but I had to find a solution to her witch problem. Right now, it's my top priority. Lost in thought, I suddenly heard Madhu's voice. "I need some air," she said and ran towards the backyard. I signaled Karan to go after her, as leaving her alone right now was not safe, and he followed her.

Madhu's father asked me again, "Vasu, I am waiting for your answer." I jerked my head towards him and cleared my throat. "Papa, of course, it's a yes, but you should have asked her first," I said, signing my approval. He smiled and walked towards me. "I know what her answer is. I want to know yours," he said with a smile and continued, "So, as you said yes, the engagement will be held tomorrow." He tapped my shoulders, and my eyes widened. "Papa..." I started, but he softly held my arms and took me to the corner of the living ''Because of a decision I made on her behalf, she went through a dark phase, and it took a long time for her to return to normal. I don't want to make the same mistake again." he said, his eyes gathering tears. I sighed. "What about her?" I asked. He kept his hand on my head and caressed it. "Go and talk to her," he said and left.

My eyes scanned the living room, and everyone was excited about tomorrow's function. I knew I had to talk to her, so I walked toward the backyard. Suddenly, a hand pulled me, and I turned my head to see that it was my mother. "Ma, you should have talked to me first! Why are you making this difficult for her?" I asked her in a frustrated tone.

She furrowed her eyes and said, "I made this decision to make it easier for you two. I don't want any more troubles in your life. You've already gone through so much because of the stupid decision you made a year ago with Deva!" She yelled at me. I stood there, not knowing what to say. "Ma..." I began, but she cut me off.

"She's back, Vasu! I know what she's capable of. I have a hunch that something bad might happen to Madhu because of Deva. I'm scared, beta," she said, tears gathering in her eyes. I sighed, knelt down, and took her hands into mine. "Ma, nothing is going to happen to her. I won't let that happen. Deva will not return to our lives. I promise you that," I assured her that everything would be fine. "I need to talk to her," I said, and she nodded.
