Stefanie's POV
As I grab my stuff from my locker after school Caleb comes running to me.
"Hey sis, what do you say to a evening out for a bit? Wherever you want, little sibling time." Caleb surprises me
"Did mom and dad put you up to this after yesterday?" I clue in "Maybe but it might help you. Besides it's been a while since we've hanged out. Unlike other older sisters you're not lame or annoying. C'mon, and we are using your car. I came with mom because I needed to get here early." Caleb informs me
"Let me guess you got in trouble for being late to class again?" I check "Maybe, you in or not sis?" He asks again "Ok sure" "I'm driving" He says taking my keys from my hands as I grab them out of my purse. "Hey!" I say to him loudly. "I told you that we're using your car just now but I'm in control. You can just relax in the passenger seat and be your annoying, loving self." Caleb tells me as he rubs my hair. I fix it and roll my eyes.
"Alright fine, thanks for doing this." I mean it "No problem" He says
Caleb parks the car and he looks at me with a smirk as I have a big smile on my face. It's our childhood park that mom and dad used to take us too when we were kids.
"I was hoping this was going to be the best place for you to relax your mind." He tells me and we excitedly get out and sit on the swings.
"Remember when dad got me to climb the very top of that high slide and mom screamed at him because she was scared I was going to fall and break something?" Caleb reminisces while looking at the slide. I laugh at the memory and so does he.
"Oh very much so, mom was going to rip dad's head off because she was so scared." We giggle as I say that and smile.
"Stef, what is our life?" Caleb asks me "Full of craziness and adventure." I lightly answer but he sighs.
"More of fear as well. Do you not know how much mom and dad get scared if you're gonna die or live? I hear it sometimes after a crazy event when you get hurt and you're passed out asleep. They tremble with fear after. I heard mom say 'What if she doesn't wake up after this one?' That terrified me because I couldn't imagine it. I sound selfish saying this but it's true, I'm happy that I'm human and not a vampire. It feels safer but not by much. Sorry if that upsets you but it's just the truth." Caleb admits to me and I try not to cry at that.
"No I get it, believe me. I want to be human more than anything. Being both with the little vampire strength I have is no picnic in the park. I'll admit something to you too. I'm jealous of you" I admit to him back and he looks at me shocked.
"You are?" He asks me "Hell yes, you're human and have no bloodlust or ripper spree in you. You get to live, well, a half normal life. More than the rest of us in this family do." I complain to him and he looks down but than looks at me.
"Yeah, I get that for you. You want to go to the doc and just chill by the water? I remember it helped you relax." Caleb sweetly offers "Sure, I need that" I agree and we go to the doc and the sun is perfect for this moment. This is what I needed.
