Forgetting

It was the Saturday night that had changed my life forever. Klaus and I had a really big fight about how our relationship was going to work. I told him that I would turn for him, but he didn't want to do that to me. He claimed he couldn't take away my humanity.

Things ended pretty badly, and I had no clue how our relationship stood or if it even still existed. There was a party that night, and I had planned on drinking my pain away. That's exactly what I did too.

I knew I had to drive home, but each shot numbed me even more. I somehow managed to get home safely. When I finally decided to come home, none other than Klaus was walking up to my car.

"Need something?" I slurred.

"Morgan, you're drunk. Just know that I'm sorry, okay?" He sighed. He froze, looking towards my home. "Wait - something is going on."

In a flash, Klaus was inside my house. I drunkenly followed him, and I let out a scream of horror as I saw my mother's lifeless body on the ground surrounded by a pool of blood.

I ran over to her and fell to my knees beside her. Klaus watched as I grabbed her icy cold hand. Tears streamed down my face and even Klaus looked as if he were about to cry.

"Mom," I begged for her to wake up. "Don't die on me. You can't leave me like this. You've gotta see me finish college and get married. You're supposed to be there for me. You can't die yet."

Klaus knelt down beside me, and he held me in his arms as I sobbed. He kissed my forehead lightly and rubbed my arms soothingly. A loud bang erupted, making us jump.

"I'm gonna go check it out," he told me. "Stay here." I nodded my head and held my mother in my arms. I examined the wound on her neck. Bite marks. It was a vampire. I stood up, ignoring Klaus's requests.

As soon as I stood, my body was knocked back onto the ground. I gasped as I smacked the ground with a thud. My head ached as I laid there, the unknown vampire hovering over me. I was terrified.

"Klaus took something from me once. Now I'm taking something in return. You're gonna forget," he smirked, staring into my eyes. He ripped my bracelet from my wrist. He could compel me now. "You're going to forget all about Klaus. You'll forget the love you had once shared and all of the time that you spent with him. You'll forget what it was like to love."

The man was slung off of me, freeing me of my trance. I grew confused as I watched the two men fighting. The blonde slammed his hand into the other's chest.

"Wait," the other gasped. "If you kill me, she'll never remember you."

"Undo it," The blonde demanded.

"I'm gonna need my freedom and a little something in return," the man smirked.

"And what's that?" The blonde asked angrily.

"We can discuss it another time."

The blonde pulled his hand from the other's chest before the other disappeared. The blonde looked defeated as he walked over to me.

"Are you alright, love?" He asked me.

"Who are you?" I asked in confusion.

"No," he said, tears now spilling out. "Don't you dare say that to me. You have to remember me." He looked deep into my eyes, trying to order me to remember.

"I'm sorry, but I don't," I frowned. "What's going on?" I glanced over and spotted my mother. "Oh my God! Did you do this?"

"No," he promised. "Listen, you're going to forget about everything you saw tonight. You went to a party and had fun with your friends. You came home to find your mother was killed. You won't remember me or the other man that was here tonight."

I nodded my head and watched as he cried. He touched my cheek softly before he disappeared. I blinked a few times before snapping back into reality. "Mom!" I screamed in panic and ran to her body.

My eyes were forced open and the blood was all gone. I knew I was crying and I looked at Klaus, feeling broken-hearted.

"I'm so sorry," I apologized. "I'm so sorry that you had to go through that."

He nodded his head, tears peeking in his own eyes. He quickly wiped his eyes and stood to his feet. I did the same before wrapping him in a hug. He was taken back a bit, but hesitantly wrapped his arms around me.

"Who was that?" I asked. "What did he want in exchange for my memories? He said you took something from him."

"It doesn't matter anymore," he shook his head. "He isn't going to give them back to you. I can't give him what he wants."

"What does he want?" I repeated.

"I said it doesn't matter. You got the answers you were looking for. Just leave it at that!"

He disappeared in an instant. I felt hopeless as I stood crying on Bonnie's porch. She walked over to me and pulled me in for a hug. There was this huge part of my life that was still missing, and I was determined to find it.

Not only had I lost my memory, but I had lost love and Klaus. I wasn't sure how I felt about him anymore, seeing as those memories had triggered something inside of me, but I needed to know if I was capable of feeling it again. I seemed like I was so happy with him. I wasn't constantly drinking or crying.

There weren't nightmares because he made me fearless. He had been the hero I was searching for. I needed to remember. I had to remember.

"So what now?" Damon asked. "I'm guessing that you aren't going to drop it. So what do we do now?"

"There's nothing we can do," I sniffled. "Klaus is the only person who can help me find my mother's killer. He's the only way to find out about my past."

"Morgan, even if Klaus did tell us who killed your mother, I don't think it's a good idea to hunt him down. I think that you should just accept the fact that you're never going to know some things and move on with your life," Damon advised me.

"Damon, don't be so insensitive," Bonnie scolded. Damon rolled his eyes before speeding to his car and leaving. I sat back down, hanging my legs from the porch. Bonnie sat down beside me, rubbing my back.

"I can't believe this," I frowned. "I was so close. I got to see things that I never thought would happen, but they did. I fell in love with him, Bonnie. I loved him more than anything, and I can't even remember what that felt like."

"There's gotta be another way," Bonnie shook her head. "Was there any evidence from your mother's case? Did he leave anything behind?"

"Now that you mention it," I said, thinking back to my days spent being interrogated. "The detectives found a knife with some weird symbol on it. I had no idea what it was, though."

"That's it! If we can get that knife, I can do a locator spell on him!" Bonnie said excitedly.

"It'll be impossible," I shook my head. "That's classified evidence. They aren't going to be willing to just hand it over."

"Maybe they won't be willing, but with a little persuasion," she smirked, referring to compulsion.

"You heard Klaus, he has no intent on helping me track this dude down, so he's out. Damon doesn't think it's a good idea, so I sure as hell don't think Stefan will either."

"Maybe not, but that still leaves Caroline," she pointed out. "And we can bring Tyler for backup."

"You think this could work?" I asked, smiling hopefully.

"It's a possibility," she shrugged, grinning.

A/N: So the cat is out of the bag! Klaus took something, and as a punishment, Morgan forgot him. Harsh right?
