Return
Klaus had boarded a different plane to go ahead to New Orleans, having his things sent over separately. That meant I had two plane rides by myself. I was so mad at him for compelling me and leaving me alone. He claimed I wasn't safe, yet he leaves me by myself in not just one, but TWO busy airports. It didn't take anywhere near as long as it took to get to Virginia as it would have New York. I got off the plane and I was still fuming.
Klaus had rejected me. How embarrassing. He even had to compel me to make me leave. God, how pathetic am I? I walked to the baggage claim and grabbed my bag before walking to find someone familiar. Elena was busy, but she said that she would arrange for someone to pick me up. I finally spotted him standing there with his hands stuffed in his pocket. A smile broke out onto his face when his eyes landed on me.
"Hey Ric," I grinned.
"Hey Morgan," he smiled. "How was your trip to California? Did you have fun?"
"I wish," I rolled my eyes. "I'm just so glad to be back. Now I can just forget about Klaus and move on with my life."
"That's the spirit?" He said unsurely. "Did something happen with you two while you were gone?"
"We had a big disagreement. I really don't wanna talk about it. I just want to forget what happened and move on with my life."
"Okay then. So, did you get all of your memories back?"
We had been walking the whole time we were talking, so we finally reached Alaric's car. I climbed into the passenger seat and collapsed against it. The smell of coffee in the car was overwhelming.
"No," I groaned. "It seems I'm doomed to be ignorant for the rest of my pathetic life. Did you spill coffee in here? That's all I can smell."
"No, I think it's because I usually do have a coffee in here," he chuckled. "The smell is kind of just permanent now."
I laughed as I shook my head at him. I stared out the window as we began to drive away from the window. We had an hour of a drive ahead of us. For the most time, we rode in silence, but there was an occasional conversation. We also listened to the radio as well. It wasn't an awkward ride. I just was exhausted from the past few days and couldn't really get in the mood to talk.
We eventually reached my house and I was more than happy to be home and get to bed. I unlocked my door and shuffled inside. I flicked the light switch on and flung back as soon as my friends jumped out at me.
"Surprise!"
"Holy crap," I gasped, clutching my heart. "You guys almost gave me a heart attack." Everyone laughed at my reaction as I worked on steadying my heart beat. My friends each took their turn of hugging me and welcoming me back. You would think I had been gone for months, but no, just three days. Damon was the last to approach me.
"You alright?" He questioned in concern. I simply nodded my head. "I was so worried about you. I knew Klaus would take care of you, though."
"Oh he took care of me alright," I muttered.
Damon's eyes widened at my statement, realizing something wasn't right. He rose an eyebrow at me, but I just shook it off. I didn't want to think about it. What happened in San Fransisco is going to stay in San Fransisco. I glanced around the party and noticed two originals were also here.
"Hey Elijah," I greeted him as I walked over to where he stood. "Nice to see you again, Rebekah." The two smiled back.
"Hello Morgan," Elijah said. "I hope my brother, Niklaus, didn't force you to endure too much of his nonsense."
"Knowing our brother, he most likely did," Rebekah chuckled. "He always has had a knock for being a pest."
"Yeah, he's not exactly the most pleasant person," I agreed. "But he was alright, I guess."
"Well, I'm sorry that you couldn't get what you wanted," Elijah apologized. "Niklaus told us everything."
"Everything?" I repeated unsurely.
Did he tell them that we had a moment on the plane? Did he tell them that after having my heart broken, I got him drunk? Did he tell them about the two of us doing the deed? Had he told them about how he had compelled me to move on with my life?
"He told us of how you won't be able to regain your full memory until you-" he stopped himself. I nodded, knowing what he was going to say. I wouldn't remember until my death.
"Anyways," Rebekah cleared her throat. "We came to celebrate your return, not to pout. You should just be happy to have the friends that you do. They love you so much that they invited half of the town to your house to surprise you. So you should be very happy."
You're going to follow your heart and do whatever makes you happy.
"I'm going to move back to New York," I blurted. The two seemed surprised by my sudden statement. To them, it came out of nowhere, but I had said it due to the compulsion I was under. I had to do what made me happy, and I was happy in the city.
"You just got back," Elijah frowned. Confusion was written over both of their faces. "Why do you want to leave already?"
"I was happy there," I sighed. "I had a nice apartment, a good paying job, and I was attending one of the best colleges in the world. I had it made there."
"So you're going to try to live a life outside of the supernatural world? You can't pretend that any of this never happened. It'll kill you inside," Rebekah lectured.
"I'm not going to pretend it never happened. I'll carry this with me as I go. I need to try to live a normal life again. Mystic Falls is far from normal, but New York is so busy, I won't have time to get caught up in the supernatural entities there," I explained.
"Then I want to come too," Rebekah grinned.
"Why?" I asked in shock. I hardly knew Rebekah, and it would be weird if she just came with me.
"Because like you, I'd like to be far away from Nik and this God forsaken town."
