CALUM POV:

October 5th

It was October 5th and we had just finished Lover of Mine on paper. Today we had to record it. Our team was already in the studio setting things up for us.

We all walked into the studio together, ready to get this shit cranked out. I was excited because this would be the first song out of thirteen that we could call finished. We still hadn't come up with a name for the record yet but that would come with time. We bounced a few ideas around but nothing serious.

"Good morning boys," Ali had a huge smile on her face. She was always such a good person to be around.

"Well hello Miss Ali," I cheered before going and giving her a big hug.

Ali and I have always been quite close since Youngblood. She is a brilliant songwriter and she agreed to help us write and produce the new album which I was more than excited for.

"Alright boy's, I think I want to start with the recording of instruments and then we can mess around with some vocals a bit." Louis suggested.

"That sounds good to me." Ashton said as we all nodded. "I cannot wait to do this drum part for you guys, I think you'll really like it." He added.

We asked the team if we could spend most of the writing time alone and if they had anything, to tell us and we would meet up or text. Ali was the one who helped a lot on this song. She had helped Ashton with his ideas and then she and Sierra also spent a lot of time together writing.

Luke had been the first to go, playing the piano for the rest of us to hear. This studio was really nice, I was glad our team found it. The acoustic foam helped keep out any echoing and it wasn't super big which was also a really good thing.

"Let's get you two boys in the booth to record bass and guitar while Ash starts on the drums." Ali pointed at Michael and I both as she sat at the soundboard. "And when we are done here, I have some ideas for a song."

I gave her a big smile. "Can't wait."

We finished all the instrumentals and we were now trying to piece them together and see what sounded good. We all agreed when we started writing this that the Piano needed to be at the beginning of the song. It only made sense.

"Since the song starts out slow, I think we should use Ashtons drums to make it louder and up the beat more." Louis suggested and then arranged the music so that we could hear it.

We all sat still, listening to the parts that he smashed together. I can't speak for anyone else here, but I think this just makes perfect sense. It sounded good aesthetically and I could see it going with the song.

"That is awesome." Michael spoke when the music stopped.

We were all in agreement that it was what needed to be done. It sounded good, it felt good. It was all around just perfect. Once we had figured out the rest of the music, we decided that we needed to record vocals. It was going to be a long day. Luke went in and started messing around with the song, not really singing it, just trying to find the right tone.

It's been a lot of back and forth, in and out of the sound booth. Moving small segments of the song around.

"I'm starving," Ali announced. "Cal, you wanna come with me to pick up some food?"

I nodded, "Yes please, I need something to eat if I am going to be here all day."

Ashton peaked his head out of the sound booth, "Get us shake shack!"
