Chapter 5

The next day I asked Kathryn to come over and I had to ask her why she would give Darin my number.
"Because he asked for it " she said
"Yeah but why would you give it to him ?" I asked
"Because he asked for it !" She said back .
I put my hands in my hips and looked down.
"why does it bother you so much ?" She asked sitting down on my bed.
"Because I'm not ready to give out my personal information ." I said annoyed .
"We'll all he's doing is texting you." She said .
I shook my head. "Whatever ."
"Come on..if you treat Darin like a vicious Criminal, he's bound to act like one. " she said.
I looked at her.
She's never led me wrong..so why wouldn't she do the same here?
I nodded" your right..your right..I need to take this easy and calmly." I said .
She relaxed with relief.
"Come on let's go downstairs " she said getting up. I got up and followed her out .
We decided to go swimming in her neighbors pool. We were sitting on some floats and talking.
I was telling her about how freaked out my sister was when I was talking to her the night that she left .
"Well she's jest being a good sister." She said as she hung her hand over the side of the float and into the water.
"I know but she's being over protective." I said frustrated.
"Well she has to be doing it for your safety ". She said.
I sighed and looked into the water at my reflection.
"I don't know why she doesn't trust him.."I said
She reached across to my float and opens her mouth to say
"if he wanted to kill you..he would have done it by now."

Chapter 5(part2)

After me and Kathryn went swimming we went inside to go and watch a movie and eat watermelon .
We were watching an mystery crime movie of a rampage killer.
It was right when they were about to announce the verdict.
"Who do you think it was ?" I asks nervous.
"I don't know ! My mind is racing!" She said excited but nervous.
"I sentence the fauther to life in prison!" She judge banged her gavial and closed the case.
"What?! It was the dad ?! I had no idea!" Kathryn said shocked.
"Yeah." I said agreeing. I tryed spitting the watermelon seed into the bowl next to Kathryn but instead it went into her hair.
She gasped and pulled it out of her hair.
"What was that for!?" She asked as she laughed and threw the seed into the bowl.
"Sorry! I have bad aim!" I said shrugging .
" yeah right ! " she said .
Later that day me and Kathryn hung out outside all day.
We went up into my old tree house that I use to go in when I was little .
"I haven't been up here in forever." I said sitting down on the floor.
She did the same . " yeah..I don't know if I've been up here before ." She said looking around.
"Mm..I think you have you jest don't remember it." I said .
Jest then I felt my phone buzz.
I pulled it out and looked at the screen.

Darin: hey. What's up?
Me: not much jest chilled with Kathryn up in my old tree house . You ?
Darin: nothing. Jest hanging out.
Me: cool. How are things ?
Darin: good. You ?
Me: same.
Darin: cool. You have any plans for the summer?
Paused for a minute.
Me: yeah I'm going to the beach sometime.
Darin: oh that's cool. When?
My heart sank and I looked up at Kathryn.
"What ?" She asked worried .
"He.ah..wants to know when I'm going to the beach.."I said with a blank expression.
"Well. jest tell him that you don't know the exact date." She said .
I nodded.

Me: I don't know the exact date.
Darin: oh ok . Well I have to go . I'll talk to you later .
Me: ok bye.
I quickly turned my phone off and shoved it in my back pocket and put my hands in my lap.
"It's ok don't worry about it . He jest wants to know if you have plans do the
Summer. Lots of people ask that. It's a good convo started." She said.
I nodded and pushed the thought away.
Why am I so edgy about Darin? He's a good guy! But why do I feel like I can't trust him?
Kathryn laid back with her hands behind her head." I hope that with Darin around it will be a summer to remember."
I got chills when she said that .
