POV: Michael
Bethany was adamant on fleeing. She confessed that it was Nicco's plan-his wish for us to flee to safety. Consequently leaving him here alone to be subject to a gruesome and painful execution. By his demonic family no less. Yeah fucking right. I don't care if it's his wish or not, I refuse to leave him here and let him die.
"I know you don't want to leave him here just as much as me." I told her straight up.
"There's got to be something we can do."
Since the whole scuffle, we've kept to ourselves in Nicco's room. Neither Sariha nor I want to risk going out by ourselves with what's going on. So, Bethany watches over us like a hawk, while we try to figure out our next move.
"I understand Michael, but anything we try will be incredibly risky. You guys aren't exactly in the best condition to be fighting off a coven of vampires."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean you're a human, with little to no physical training. Not like that's a bad thing, just we'd be at a huge disadvantage during a fight." She explained.
"You're telling me that there are no other options other than fighting?"
"Yeah, Bethany. What about legally?" Sariha chimed in.
"Yes! Legally! Let's fucking sue their asses for wrongful imprisonment!" Finally, something that could work.
"It's wrongful conviction Michael, but yes. Let's sue their asses."
"While that is a good option elsewhere. Vampire's don't follow the same laws and procedures." I muttered an 'obviously' before she continued. "Our judicial system, if you can even call it that, is extremely complicated. I barely know how it works."
"Well, you're not me." Sariah joked. It's true. That's her superpower, understanding the un-understandable. "Come on Bethany, this is our only shot at getting Nicco out of here alive."
"What about getting you guys out of here alive?" For a moment it was silent.
"Bethany, won't I die anyways?" Her brows scrunched. "If Nicco dies, I die, right?"
"Well, yes, but-"
"But? I die, Bethany." Again, it was silent. "For the majority of my life, I've wanted to die. Nothing seemed worth living for. But Nicco alone, despite our problems, is worth me living. Please, at least let us try Bethany. Please."
3rd Person
Short answer: she agreed.
Bethany gathered all that she could about the Vampire Council and their procedures. This included thick, heavy, dusty books. Together these books weighed more than 100 pounds. Sariha began reading through them. She did this, of course, with the not-so-great help from Michael, who couldn't understand much of the legal lingo. So, he made sure there was coffee and food ready for Sariah. (After Bethany went and got it).
The first thing the legal protégé looked for was how to file an appeal or lawsuit. Which for the vampiric council, is called a challenge of allotment. Which completely flabbergasted Sariha. She summed it up as a weird translation error that was overlooked. This was because Sariha found out the council's law originated in Iraq around 3500 BC. Back then they used the Sumerian language. Both humans found it crazy that vampires had been around for so long. Obviously, they were different back then. Not so human, not as smart. But, just as old vampires evolved into modern vampires, these original vampires adapted. Adapted to blend in better, with humans-with their prey.
