I was sitting with my hands in my lap with tears in my eyes ready to flow down. I was having difficulty holding them back. "Hope for the best, Katherina, don't worry. We will be by your side like always". Said Mrs D'Cruz. HANNAH FERREIRA D'CRUZ. 62 years old, 5.3', sweet, caring and beautiful lady just like her sister, Mrs D'Silva (Anna). She is a gynaecologist by profession at VHCMS. "I know, Aunt Hannah, but I just can't see my parents lying there in that room. I thought I would hug them, kiss them, and hold them when they will return, but here they are lying in a very critical condition in that room." I said crying bitterly I was not able to hold them back anymore. I heard the knob of the door turning, I turned and found doctor coming "Good Evening". She said. "Good Evening." We said together. "Who is the immediate family here?" She asked. "Myself, Katherina Fernandez Shane, eldest daughter of Mrs and Mr Shane" I said, forwarding my hand, she took it and shook it. "See Katherina, I will get straight to the point. Your parents are really on the edge of death with every passing minute, they are dying, I am really sorry but the operation was unsuccessful, I say you and your family meet them last time. I am really sorry but I cannot help it". She said. "All the best Miss Shane". With that, she walked out. For a second I was not able to register anything not even a single word she said. But after a minute I realized that my parents were dying. My world came crashing down on me. Tears were flowing profusely from my eyes, my hands started shivering, and I stood up and ran towards the room in which my parents were there, I went inside the room. A nurse was removing the wires from them. I saw my parents lying there as if they were sleeping peacefully. I was standing in the middle of their beds. I was crying badly while she quietly pulled the bed sheets on them.
I wanted to hold them in my arms one last time, I wanted to hold them one last time, I wanted to tell them how much I love them one last time, I wanted to hug them one last time, I wanted to kiss their foreheads one last time, I wanted to feel them one last time, I wanted to see them smile towards me one last time, I wanted to smell them one last time, one last time......................., one last time I wanted them to pat my head affectionately one last time....................one...last.....time.....
I fell down on my knees; I was weeping very badly, and my head started spinning. I felt someone hugging me from the sides, I saw my sisters crying and clutching me, their eyes were red due to sobbing and then we stood up to go outside with nurses carrying my parents on the bed behind me. When I was about to enter the hallway I saw Uncle James coming towards us "I know, it's difficult but you are my brave Katherina, you all will pass this" said Uncle James "Hmmm" I said. Just then Daniel entered along with David and Dalon, "we are sorry for your loss" said Daniel. I just nodded just when I was about to walk towards Aunt Anna, I felt darkness engulfing me and I fell on the floor before closing my eyes I saw Uncle James and Daniel running towards me.
I woke up from my sleep and found Aunt Anna and Daniel were talking about something to her but I couldn't hear I managed to sit and Aunt Anna came near me "Oh! Katherina I was so worried for you". said Aunt Anna I looked towards her confused as to what she was telling them then I slowly realised how some time ago my whole world turned upside down how I lost my parents to the fate I pinched me thinking maybe I am just dreaming and all this will vanish away but Alas! It was all real and now only God knows what will happen next. I came out of my thinking when Daniel came in the room, he went away when I woke up "Katherina Dad has taken your parents to your house, everyone went away to your house if you are well and ready to leave then we too shall leave for your house. What do you say?" asked Daniel No I wanted to say I was not ready to see my parents in that condition, I was not ready for the final goodbye, and I was not ready to leave them. I felt someone's hand on my hands which were on my lap I looked up to see Aunt Anna smiling towards me "You need to be strong Katherina". Said Aunt "Okay, we will leave in two minutes, Daniel," I said, "OK I will be waiting for you two in my car". Said Daniel and he left closing the door behind him. I sighed and started walking along with Aunt Anna we reached downstairs, checked out from the hospital and went towards the exit. As soon as Daniel saw us coming he bought his car near the exit Aunt Anna sat in the passenger seat and I sat in the backseat leaning towards the window. I started a journey where they were people to support me but my guidance, affection, love, and care everything was lost with my parents.
I walked into my house with Aunt Anna and everyone was present their relatives, friends and media. They were asking me questions "Miss Katherina, you lost your parents to a car accident. How are you feeling?" "Miss Katherina, was this incident an accident or a conspiration?" "Do you suspect someone?" "Who will handle the company?" "Do you think of someone behind this?" Daniel who was walking ahead of me and Aunt Anna and making my way into the house "Stop! Stop it! All of you! No more questions!" shouted loudly, I Flinched at his anger he motioned us inside. Inside everyone was dressed in black clothes some were crying, and some were talking about how good and wealthy people they were and how they left the four daughters behind I went near my parents' coffin and sat there staring at them when Uncle James came near my parent's coffins and gave the eulogy. After that, it was time to take them for burying. I realised that I have to be strong for Catalina, Mellina and Marina, I found them sitting in the middle of the hall with Aunt Hannah.
