(Daniel POV)
After recovering from that nightmare of a scene the game just showed me, I left the bathroom and went back to my laptop, sitting down in front of my desk. The minute I even touched my chair, the next level finished loading, with the words "Great Forest" making a quick appearance, as it showed me playing as Rotor in the name of the location from the comics and cartoon.
At first, I was impressed with this messed up game, first taking characters from the other Sonic media, then taking some locations from it as well, but that positive feeling vanished when I remembered what happened to Sally. I fell a little bit guilty for her gruesome demise. Sure, it's just a video game, but it still felt wrong, knowing that your inputs lead to an innocent being's death. Great, I'm starting to sound like that theory teacher.
For how Rotor played, he had a few skills that Tails could use in that one handheld fighting game, such as an extendable boxing glove attack, and a useful arm cannon. I liked it, seeing the abilities fitting the genius that the walrus is. Swallowing any worries in my throat, I begun moving Rotor through the Great Forest, with the music being only the sounds of any woodland creatures that weren't killed.
Eventually, after reaching the stump that leads to Knothole, that purple hedgehog appeared right in front of Rotor. I jumped back, both in game and real life, not expecting to see one of those two killer hedgehogs already, until it just took a few steps back and made a hand gesture, showing that it wanted to fight. Rotor looked worried, and I can't blame him, after seeing what this entity could do, but I have to try.
"You know, I have a quick question for you. What even is your name?"
I wasn't really expecting this thing to hear me, but it did, and I wasn't expecting the response.
"To be honest, I've nearly forgot my name. But my new one is Basilides."
Basilides, that's an interesting name. Soon, the battle commences, with the purple hedgehog extending its hand out, before firing a red beam straight at Rotor. I had the walrus avoid it by ducking, before firing an energy blast at my own, which hit him. Basilides didn't take that well, as he began levitating high in the air, barraging me with homing attacks after a few seconds. After a few attacks, I noticed a pattern, and repeatedly attacked him with the boxing glove every time he got close.
I noticed the purple hedgehog was now panting, its body now shaking. It's tired now, I can end this! I went in for an attack, but Basilides teleported behind Rotor and ended him instantly with a spin dash, going right through him. I felt more of my stomach beginning to go up my throat, but I swallowed it back down. Just then, I noticed a purple light leave Rotor's corpse, as it gets grabbed by Basilides, who then faces me.
"That was pretty fun. I hope he lets me have another match with you."
The screen cuts to black after he finishes speaking, leaving me time to think about what he said before and after the fight. For starters, he said that he forgot his own name, add on the fact that he said my trick as Sally in the previous level, is he trying to say that he was once human? But that's impossible. As for what he said after the fight, sounds like that he's working with that evil Sonic, who seems more like a leader than a partner.
I'm brought out of my thinking as the next level begins to load, with the words "Deactivated Fortress Act 1" appearing and revealing myself to be... Snively? Okay, didn't think I'd be playing as the cowardly henchmen as Julian Robotnik in this game, but I should've expected this since I played as other characters from other Sonic media in the previous levels.
