"kevin," steve said, arms crossed once kevin entered his house, head hung low, trying to avoid eye contact with his father.
"hm."
"look at me when i'm speaking to you."
kevin glared up at him. "what do you want?"
"for you to shut the hell up and listen. i was kidding. about the mother thing."
kevin's face dropped. he stared at his father with an incredibly hurt expression, eyes wet.
"that's not. a fucking. joke."
"what, you tryna blame me?"
"no. IT'S NOT A FUNNY JOKE." kevin sucked in a breath to keep from crying.
"i never said it was. now quit put words in my mouth before i put my fucking fist in yours."
"you didn't have to. you saying that fucking bullshit was your fault, and then saying it was a joke, is. not. funny. it says enough that you were to pull that shit on me."
"well if you'd stop being a baby about it and man the fuck up, maybe you'd have a different perspective on the situation."
kevin wanted to punch him. "PERSPECTIVE?! MAYBE IF YOU WEREN'T SUCH A SELF-CENTERED ASSHOLE, YOU'D FINALLY CARE TO SEE MY PERSPECTIVE THAT THAT'S AN AWFUL THING TO SAY!"
"get to your FUCKING room!" steve screamed, aggressively smacking kevin across the face. "NO DINNER."
"IT'S 1:00 AM ANYWAY! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!" kevin yelled back, slamming his door after running to his room.
"YOU DON'T SLAM DOORS IN MY HOUSE."
"I'LL DO IT IF I FUCKING WANT TO."
his father punched his door, making kevin jump and break into a sob.
"oh yeah. open your closet door."
kevin ignored him and tried to pull himself together immediately. he despised crying. it just wasn't like him. he hyperventilated on the floor for a few minutes trying to catch his breath, ignoring his pounding headache that his father caused.
an hour later, the only thing on kevin's mind was the closet. he couldn't get what his father said out of his head.
he took a deep breath, folding out of his small bed and slowly walking over to his closet. swallowing hard and closing his eyes for a second, kevin placed a hand on the handle to the closet door, opened his eyes, and opened the door.
...
oh.
oh.
. . .
kevin turned pale, unable to scream, cry, anything. his breathing picked up, heart began to ache, his body started shaking, he felt as though he was unable to support his own body weight anymore.
there it was. center of kevin's closet. the body that once held his mother's soul.
kevin felt speechless. his vision started to blur, and he was finally unable to keep himself standing. as he vision went black, he passed out.
...
...
. . .
the boy gasped awake, hands trembling as he sat up quickly. kevin prayed that it was just a simple nightmare, only to look over and see the bloody woman lying dormant in his closet. kevin immediately broke down into tears, despite his hatred for crying.
