Dan Howell always admired fires. Not the heat nor the flames, but the embers. The bits of orange-red flakes that floated up then disappeared suddenly.

It was so intriguing. Staring up into the sky as the embers floated upwards slowly and disappearing suddenly. What was more intriguing was when you added more wood to the fire - gave it a push. The embers - thousands of them - soared up and flew higher than before. Then they disappeared.

To Dan, he was the fire and the embers were experiences.

The fire starts off hot and releasing its embers quickly and soaring before quickly fading.

They were happy memories that quickly vanished as the embers did.

Then, the fire died down a bit. The embers halted from spilling over the top and instead only few were released at a time, but these stayed longer. They spun in different directions and fell to the ground and faded.

That was when everything bad began. When school began and they - all of the idiotic dickheads who felt they were superior - made the fire feel cold. It made those happy memories die and be covered by long-lasting, absolute shit ones.

But then someone gave the push. Phil Lester appeared on Dan Howell's computer screen when Dan was eighteen through YouTube videos, then through Skype.

Phil Lester gave that push making the logs turn and the embers burst. Thousands darting into the sky, straight up, and holding long before fading into oblivion.

Phil Lester was the assistance to the burning fire and, although the embers would fade eventually, left a lasting on the fire and the entire atmosphere.
