"Should we mention...?" Phil inquired, gesturing between himself and the brown-haired boy beside him.

"Mention what?" Dan furrowed his eyebrows obliviously.

"That we're, um, together and stuff."

"Oh," Dan's face fell slightly. The cheap camera was still running, capturing their awkward conversation that would be edited out, and the sloppy cat whiskers remained present. "People can be cruel about... Y'know."

"Yeah. I know," Phil responded. "We'll be ready one day."

2010

When he first saw himself on his own Tumblr dash, Dan flipped his shit.

It definitely wasn't the key point where he realized he was semi-big on YouTube; that was when they crushed Super Note. There, he realized he was, in a sense, out there. That actual people with actual lives watched him and would reblog pictures of him.

From there, he wandered a bit further.

"Practically married" one post says, with a gif of him and Phil smiling at each other.

Dan raises an eyebrow. Do people think they're together? Why do they think they're together? Is Phil the reason Dan receives all those harsh comments about being gay?

2011

"Dan?"

"Hm?"

"Do you think we should ever come out? People are questioning it."

"Eventually."

2012 (not this year oh no)

"I'm fucking done!"

"Are you okay, Dan?" Phil inquired, averting his eyes off of his laptop screen and onto Dan, who was focused on his laptop as well.

"I'm done with them thinking we're together!"

"But we are tog--"

"I can't do this anymore." Dan closed the laptop and shoved it off his lap.

"What?" Phil's voice cracked slightly. "Are you--"

"No," Dan answered, "I'm not breaking up with you. We just need to stop..."

"Being a couple?"

"No--"

"If getting few negative comments about your sexuality affects you more than the thought of not being with me, have fun with the gay slurs and without me," Phil spat.

"No, Phil--"

"Every other YouTuber deals with comments too, including me, Dan. Grow up."

Phil was suddenly at the door of their flat and opening it.

Dan didn't go after him.
