We had been hiking for almost 2 hours.
The two boys and I had some little chats, we talked about Frana, family and youth. I didn't want to ruin the mood, so I kept quiet about my parents, until Gator asked me about them.
"It must've been difficult to leave your parents behind and move with us?" Gator asked, unaware of my painful past.
I looked at the ground, "I don't really have any family anymore." I hid my struggle to not fall in tears beneath a brave smile. "My dad left my mom and took my brother with him when I was 6. Two years later my mother died of cancer." My eyes welled up with unshed tears.
"I'm so sorry for asking." Gator said.
"It's okay." I fake smiled as a tear rolled down my cheek. I wiped it away and sniffed.
Hawk put his hand on my shoulder and stopped me for a second, "Come here." he said and opened his arms to me. He gave me a big tight hug and I felt another tear rolling down.
"Thanks." I said as Hawk wiped away the tear with his hand.
I wasn't used to talk about my parents to others. Not a lot of people knew about it, and I wanted to keep it that way. It was a painful thing to talk about, and it made me always emotional.
"Come on, lets move on. We're almost there." Hawk smiled.
The longer we walked, the more beautiful the view became.
As night fell, the city lights flickered on, painting the dark sky with a mesmerizing glow.
"Shit... the sun is almost down." Hawk cursed.
"Don't worry, we're almost there. We'll make it." Gator assured him.
The clock struck 9PM when the two brown-haired boys stopped walking.
Hawk turned to me, "You'll have to close your eyes from here." he said with a big grin on his face.
"What? Why?" I asked in confusion. What was he up to?
"Because it's a surprise remember?"
"But what if I fall?"
"You won't, trust me." Hawk said.
"Okay, I trust you." I closed my eyes.
"Don't peek." the boy said as he strangled his hand in mine.
Surprised from that move, my face turned red and I heard Gator chuckling.
Hawk led me to the surprise. He held my hand tightly and prevented me from tripping.
"I think it's here?" Gator questioned.
"Yes it is." Hawk led me a little further and then turned me around. "You can open your eyes now." he whispered.
I slowly opened my eyes.
A big lake glistened under the warm sun, decorated with floating lily flowers, while a nearby waterfall flowed gracefully. A cherry blossom tree hung with it's leaves over the lake.
"This- this is beautiful." I gasped and looked at Hawk who had a big smile on his face. He was still holding my hand tightly.
"You like it?" he asked me.
"I love it." I had never seen something pretty like this before. It felt like it wasn't real. It felt like a dream.
Hawk nodded happily.
"Can we take a selfie?" I asked the boys. I wanted to remember this moment forever.
"Sure." they said.
Hawk released my hand as we posed for the selfie.
We took one with Gator and one with only Hawk and me.
Hawk took the second one as I felt his lips on my right cheek.
My face flushed with surprise as Hawk's unexpected kiss landed on my cheek.
"Lets see the picture." he took his phone and went to his gallery.
"Awesome." he smiled.
My face was bright red and I couldn't bring out anything, so I nodded.
"Alright cuties, we should head back now if we don't want our ride back to wait an eternity." Gator said and he left.
Hawk grabbed my hand once more and we followed Gator.
We arrived at the parking lot at 11PM where our ride was waiting for us. Luckily the way back took less time than the way we took to the lake.
"There she is." Gator grinned.
Someone stepped out of the car and waved at us.
"Hellooo!" a familiar voice said and I realised it was Frana.
Gator gave her a kiss and we all stepped into the car.
"So how was the hike?" Frana asked us.
"It was fun." I said, "And beautiful."
"Oh they showed you the lake, that's nice. Last time I've been there was a year ago." the girl smiled at Gator.
We arrived at the facility. I thanked both Gator and Frana and said bye.
"Wait Lily! I have something." Frana ran after me with a little bag. "It's the teamselfie, I got it printed." she said. "Could you give it to everyone?"
"Ofcourse I will."
Hawk and I entered the facility. Everyone was already to bed.
"Thank you for taking me on the hike." I thanked Hawk.
"No problem." a broad grin stretched across his face.
I gave him one of the printed selfies, and went to the terrace, but Hawk stopped me.
"You should go to bed, you look tired."
"I am tired, but I have to, my mom-"
"I'm sure she'll understand. You really have to get some sleep." he said.
"But-" I tried.
"No buts. I have an idea. We'll go tomorrow night, we'll take some blankets and pillows, maybe cuddle if you want and stay as long as you'd like." he proposed.
"Yeah I'd like that." I said. But what I didn't know, was that I wouldn't be well tomorrow.
"Okay then it's a deal." Hawk smiled, "And now to bed."
We went upstairs together and said goodnight at his door.
I plopped down in my bed, not knowing that I would stay in here all day tomorrow.
