Weeks passed as the team qualified for the season's first tournament. They had won against the Vancouver Titans but lost against the Washington Justice, the London Spitfire, and the LA Gladiators. Luckily 3 wins were enough to go to Dallas, where the tournament occurred.
Nothing special had happened in those 3 weeks. It was just the usual. I did get to hang out some more with Ultraviolet. I took him and Venom for dinner because I lost the bet. I learned a lot about the whole team.
We were at the airport with our masks on due to Covid. It had almost stopped spreading, but we still wanted to be safe.
Brad and Danny led us through the gates.
"The flight to Dallas at gate 34 will be boarding in 10 minutes." the speaker announced.
"Come on Danny, you're going too slow." UV complained.
"Hey, it's not my fault that the moving staircase is going so slow." Danny growled.
"Don't worry UV, we're almost there." Gator assured him. He was walking hand in hand with Frana. I was happy she also joined us to the tournament, I didn't know how to survive it with all the boys.
"Do I also have to hold your hand?" Kai asked as a joke.
"Haha, very funny." I rolled my eyes.
We were right on time to board the plane. There were only two seats per row, so everyone was somewhat arguing about where to sit. I quickly took a seat next to the window, because I wanted to see the view at night and of course the stars.
"May I sit next to you?" Hawk asked me, "I'm not in the mood to argue."
"Yes, sure." I nodded.
It had been a while since we had a moment just the two of us. We did always watch the stars together, but during the day Hawk was always busy. Busy learning to play all the tanks. He had gotten pretty good at it. He was close to mastering all the main tanks and some off-tanks.
Hawk plopped next to me in the seat, "It has been a while." he said.
"Yes, it has." I nodded again.
"I'm sorry for not being able to hang out. I wanted to spend more time with you." he said like he knew what I was thinking about.
"It's okay. Your job goes first." I didn't want him to feel guilty about it. A job is a job and you shouldn't get distracted from it.
"Yes, but I'll make it up to you and hang out some more with you if that's okay?" he questioned.
"Of course." I smiled.
"Well I have to admit, I hate having late flights." he groused.
"Oh? Why is that?" I asked.
"Cause Dallas is only a 2-hour flight. That means we'll land around 11 and by the time we're in the hotel it'll be 2 AM," he explained, "and we have scrims at 8 AM, so that means no sleep."
"Maybe we should try to sleep now and later on the bus." I suggested.
"Yeah, but that's not ideal." Hawk shrugged, "I just want to be fully awake when we have scrims and games."
The pilot announced the departure and soon the take-off started. Hawk suddenly grabbed my hand and closed his eyes. I could feel his unease. I squeezed his hand gently, silently reassuring him that I was there for him. Once we were in the sky he let me go and apologized.
"Are you afraid of flying?" I asked him.
"Only a little," he fake smiled, "mostly of the take-off and the landing."
"Oh, I see. Well, you're always allowed to hold my hand if you need it." I told him.
"Thank you." He looked me right in the eyes and it got silent. I couldn't help but gaze into Hawk's deep, mesmerizing brown eyes.
"Awwww, you two are so cute." Ultraviolet giggled. He and Kai sat behind us.
Kai quickly kicked UV, "Shut up." he growled. He wasn't happy with that comment.
Hawk tried to hide his red face when he heard it.
UV looked mad at Kai, "Ouch, that wasn't needed."
"Yes, it was." Kai mumbled back.
A bit later than 11 PM we arrived in Dallas. I had talked with Hawk and watched the stars all flight long. I was really happy we talked, I had missed him a lot.
Hawk had asked me if he could hold my hand again while the plane was landing. Of course, I agreed and I heard Ultraviolet's "aww" again.
