After school that day, Jake had just wandered outside of the gate and breathed a sigh of relief when he noticed that Natalie was no longer following him as she mentioned that she had an after school club to attend to.

"Thank God she's gone." Jake said. "And thank God for after school clubs."

At that moment, Makayla also walked up to him. "Hey, bro." She said. "You look worn out."

"It's Natalie." Jake said, sounding annoyed. "I couldn't shake her away for the whole day."

"Man, that girl is annoying as all hell." Makayla said. "Good thing Ryan was never like that."

"Yeah. . . the opposite, in fact." Jake said.

"Anyway, shall we get going before she finds you and tries to drag you to her club?" Makayla asked.

"That's a good idea." Jake said. "Let's go quickly."

Makayla was thinking about if she should tell her brother that Ryan had come to Roosevelt High. But she figured she wouldn't. She didn't want to make his day any worse by giving him bad news like that.

"Hey, Jake! Wait up!" A familiar voice called from a distance.

"Is that her?" Jake asked as he looked like he was ready to run.

Makayla turned around to see who it was and smiled. "Don't worry. It's only April." She said.

"Oh, good." Jake said as he turned around to see April running up to them.

"How was your day?" April asked.

"I think you know how it went." Jake said with a playful smile on his face.

"You didn't hit it up well with Natalie?" April asked with a smirk. "I thought you two got a long well."

"Okay, sure." Jake said with a smirk. "If by 'getting along', you mean constantly being after me and not knowing personal space, then you're right."

Jake and April laughed it off as a joke. It was clear that they definitely got along better than anyone else so far.

Makayla smiled and looked at her brother. "Why don't you head on back?" She said. "I'll wait here for Douxie."

"Are you sure?" Jake asked.

"Yes. Now go." Makayla said. "We don't have all day. And who knows if you'll see each other at all tomorrow."

"Right. . . want to walk home with me, April?" Jake asked.

"Oh, sure." April said. "That gives us a chance to finally hang out."

With that said, Jake and April walked off and headed home. Makayla smiled as she watched her brother walk off with April.

"So. . . how often do girls like that try to get with you?" April asked.

"Not much." Jake said. "It feels like I'm the one who's trying to get with other girls."

April chuckled. "And how has that worked out for you in the past?" She asked.

"Not too bad, actually." Jake said. "Or. . . not until it was actually bad."

"Oh shoot. . . did I make you remember something horrible?" April asked. "I'm so sorry."

"No, it's okay." Jake said. "I've been trying to forget it myself. It's not that important. It happened. . . a long time ago."

"Oh, well that's good then." April said with a smile. "It's nice to finally move on from a past lover. Not speaking from experience or anything, just speaking out of my butt here."
