After the intense run in with Natalie Heartstrings, Jake and April were walking away feeling kind of mad at her. But somehow, Jake also felt kind of suspicious. Was what she was saying true? Maybe he should talk to April about it.

"Man. . . I'm glad that's over with." April said. "That girl is so annoying!"

"How often does she berate you like that?" Jake asked.

"Too often." April said. "I don't know what her deal is, but she just seems to really hate me."

"Well. . . surley there's something, right?" Jake asked. "I mean, no one hates another person for no reason."

"Well. . . I'm sure you can." April said.

"I'm just curious." Jake said. "She's been saying stuff about you being a witch or something. What's up with that?"

April froze up when Jake asked that. She didn't know what to say or how to say it. And she certainly didn't want to tell Jake and lose his trust already.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Jake said. "I'm just confused. That girl. . . there's something about her that I don't like."

"I'm sure it's nothing." April said. "Natalie is pretty popular and has all the boys after her. It's inevitable that she would act this way."

"I mean. . . for someone as pretty at Natalie, she sure has a nasty attitude." Jake said. "Hopefully she doesn't cause us anymore trouble."

April sighed quietly to herself as she felt relieved that she wasn't pressured to tell Jake anything. Although, she still felt bad for keeping her past hidden from him. He'd have to know eventually, but now wasn't that time.

"Anyway. . . enough about her." Jake said. "I want to know you."

"Really?" April asked. "I mean. . . there's not really much to know."

"Just tell me a little bit about yourself." Jake said. "And I'll do the same."

"Well, what's there to know?" April asked. "I'm just a normal teenage girl with nothing really special about me at all."

"Yeah, I feel you there." Jake said. "I would say I'm pretty normal too. For the most part, anyway."

"It's just that. . . lately things have been hard for me." April said. "And you saw some of it firsthand with Natalie."

"It must suck being bullied and called a freak all the time." Jake said.

"Well, I'm sort of used to it." April said. "It just happens to often now, that it barely fazes me anymore."

"Wow. . . that's tough." Jake said. "I know what it's like to be attacked for something that I didn't even do or something that someone else accused me of."

"How do you handle it?" April asked.

"Well. . . I'm still upset about it." Jake said. "Who knows if I'll ever get over it. Especially since it was was someone I trusted. . . my girlfriend."

"You had a girlfriend?" April asked in shock when she heard this.

"Yeah, she broke up with me a while ago." Jake said. "It was humiliating."

"I can imagine." April said.

"Anyway. . . what about you?" Jake asked. "I mean, besides all of the bullying and stuff."

"Well, let's see. . . what about me?" April said.

There was a lot of things April wished she could tell Jake, but she knew.she couldn't. She couldn't let one of her other secrets out just yet. Especially since she made a promise to not say anything.

"Well, I live with my dad. I'm an only child and my mother disappeared when I was young and-" April said, but was suddenly cut off by Jake.

"Wait, sorry to cut you off, but. . . your mother disappeared?" Jake asked in shock when he heard that.

"Y-Yeah. . . it was a long time ago and. . . I only knew her for a few years, but. . . it was enough to remember what her face looks like." April said. "It was a dark day for us O'Niels. My dad. . . He took on the role of a single father and raised me. I love him so much, considering he's the last of my actual family left."

"At least you knew your mom." Jake said sadly. "I'm still kind of confused about where I came from."

"What do you mean?" April asked.

"Well. . . My guardian, Megamind, never told me where I came from." Jake said. "All he said was that he found me at the front of his lair, all alone."

"That must be horrible." April said. "You don't have any recollection of where you came from or who your real parents are?"

"Not a clue." Jake said. "And I doubt I'd ever find out."

April felt bad for hearing what Jake has went through. As a sign of comfort, April placed a hand on Jake's shoulder.

"Don't worry, Jake." She said with a smile. "I'm sure that one day you'll find out about your past. Those secrets don't stay secrets forever, you know? You have to know eventually."

"I guess you're right." Jake said. "But the first step to that would be to make Megamind spill the beans about who or what I am."

"What do you mean 'what'?" April asked. "You're a human being. . . Like me. And everyone else here too."

"I don't know. . ." Jake said. "Sometimes I get a strange feelings that I. . . that I'm not what I appear to be."

"Don't we all feel that way sometimes?" April said nervously as she tried not to hint too much at her not being fully human either. "I'm sure it's just a phase, right?"

"No, I don't know how to explain it." Jake said. "It's just-"

"You ready to go, bro?" A cheery voice said.

Jake looked up to see Makayla walking up to them. "Oh, hey sis." He said.

"We have our next class together!" Makayla said happily. "I was looking forward to this class all day!"

"Okay, okay, calm down." Jake said. "How will we sit next to each other if this is how you act around me?"

"I guess I'll see you later, Jake." April said. "We don't have class together next, so. . ."

"Yeah. . . see you later." Jake said with a smile as he and Makayla walked off to their next class.

April smiled as she watched Jake and Makayla walk off together.

"He's a cool dude." April said to herself with a smile.
