. . . .

*beep beep beep*

. . . .

The sound of a monitor beeping was suddenly heard.

. . . .

*beep beep beep*

. . . .

Jake slowly opened his eyes to find himself floating in a black void, back to being covered with the weird substance yet again.

'I'm back here again.' Jake thought to himself. 'What happened? Did I. . . die?'

"Quite the opposite, actually. . ." A voice said. A voice Jake knew all to well at this point.

'You!' Jake said, angrily. 'Why am I back here, Night Shade?'

"I'm quite disappointed with how things turned out. . . but I can't complain." Night Shade said. "The strength of your love for April is what ultimately pulled me back. And I can't get in the way of true love."

'You tried to kill her, you bastard!' Jake said angrily.

"And I'm sorry for that." Night Shade said. "I'm also sorry for everything doubting your strength. I didn't even think about how much you've grown from childhood."

'Huh?' Jake said, now confused.

"Now. . . you have to understand that, even though I'm no longer in control, I'll still be around." Night Shade said. "But thanks to your newfound strength. . . I don't think it will be too easy for me to gain control again. So. . . be grateful for April. She saved you."

Jake could only look at Night Shade as he didn't know what else to say the moment.

"I'll bring you back to the real world now, but don't ever forget." Night Shade said. "Never take anything for granted. You never know how long they have left to live."

At that moment, Jake's vision went white as the void around him disappeared.

. . .

Jake suddenly opened his eyes once again and sat up in a bed. It was then he realized that he was actually inside of the hospital.

He then saw that his friends were sitting at the end of the bed and noticed that he had woken up.

"Oh, you're finally awake!" Mars said with a huge smile on her face. "We were so worried!"

"Everyone. . . what's going on?" Jake asked.

"Makayla told us everything." Shane said. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there to help you."

"That's okay." Jake said. "It would've been a huge risk anyway."

"Of course not!" Mars said. "If we were told about the situation, we would've dove head first into the battle to save you!"

"I would've go that far." Gracie said with a chuckle.

Jake's smile then suddenly faded as he didn't see anyone else around. "Where's Makayla?" He asked.

"She's in the other room with Douxie." Elexa said. "She wanted to see him as he got better."

"And Ryan?" Jake asked.

"She's over there." Mars said, pointing to a bed near his. "The doctor put you both in the same room, because you know each other. And we heard that you have a bit of a rivalry with Douxie, so. . . that would've been awkward."

Jake looked over and saw Trinity sitting next to a bed where he saw Ryan was laying. He threw his legs over the side of his own bed and stood up.

"Woah, that's not a good idea, Jake." Shane said. "What if you faint again?"
