It's been a day ever since the Family Day fiasco and I had been comforting the others since they were worried about me getting in prison or punishment since I used magic in public. Talk about burning witches in the 16th century.
We've been going to our classes as usual but instead of the regular judgmental gaze, we got frightened looks instead. Maleficent would be proud. Luckily, there were a few people that didn't look at us crudely and most of the teachers were pretty chill.
Vasper was worried about me as well and he strongly advised me to meditate more. That way, I could clear out my head and reduce any negative emotions. He also started to teach me how to make a mental barrier that was stronger than my mother's. But I had to do a lot of convincing before he could teach me.
He explained it was a charm he made himself before going into a deep slumber. "But it wasn't perfected, kid." Vasper warned in our conversation the night before, "I didn't mention this charm to you or your mother before because it was too risky to execute a charm that hadn't been tested. It could have you killed, kid."
"So help me. With you assisting on the side, I wouldn't be in danger. I trust you, Vas." I assured the reptile and the latter gave in to my stubbornness.
The minus of this charm was it was draining my mind power and Vasper's magic. We tried it yesterday and my head was pounding like crazy. Vasper said it was the charm working and it was an expected symptom to appear as a barrier was starting to form in the brain. Meanwhile, Vasper shrank into a smaller version of himself since his powers were draining him.
So currently, Vasper was resting in the trophy and I didn't bring him to school, and speaking of school, I hadn't seen Brayden ever since the first period and nobody knew where he was at. I did text him but he didn't read or reply to any of my messages.
The end-of-school bell rang and students scattered out of the class immediately. I slung my bag onto my shoulder while rubbing my aching temple and started to walk back to my dorm after I informed the group I'll be not joining them for dinner.
Halfway through my walk, I felt my phone vibrating and I took the gadget out of my pocket and saw a text from Brayden. His text said: "Meet me at my office. I have something to tell you. Your loyal knight, Brayden."
I stopped in my tracks and made a turn back to Auradon Prep. His office, which I assumed was the administration office, had a bold 'Do Not Disturb' sign hanging on the door. I hesitantly knocked on the door and it was opened instantly.
I went inside the office and was tackled into a hug. The male sighed tiredly and moved his head closer to my neck, "This feels good."
I awkwardly patted him on the back and carefully got out of his embrace, noticing the heavy bags under his eyes, "What happened? Why aren't you in class today? You skipped a whole day of class."
He smiled sheepishly and guided me to the couch in his office. Brayden leaned on the couch and poured himself a black coffee after I declined his offer, "Ben and I had a council meeting yesterday. The council thinks it would be best to have you and your friends deported back to the Isle because of the ... unsafe abilities you possess and it may danger Auradon. They also think the exchange program should be canceled."
"So, what? Is this my last day here?" I inquired, not surprised or sad by the news.
"And that is when we came in, honey pie." Brayden smiled gently and grabbed my hand, "Ben and I created a proposal for the council and we did a lot of persuading and talking and finally, we've managed to revoke some of the council's decisions. The program's still going, children from the Isle will keep coming. But ..."
