Blurb:

A teen ghosthunter must defeat the alluring demon Black Prince in order to save her haunted city.

***

The Great Haunting was just a historical plague. The alluring demon Black Prince wasn't real--it was the disease that drove the unfortunate maidens to take their lives. Cityfolk with sense know that. Binara knows better.

For those acquainted with her, Binara is just a teen spending school break in her ancestral estate with a strict governess, a workaholic mother and an ailing great uncle. Only her sister knew of her ability to detect supernatural phenomena and the mysterious dark matter the city is using as a power source. Couple that with science, and she has what it takes to become a better ghosthunter than the city's secretive ghostbusting agency.

Now, history is repeating itself with increasing incidents of missing girls and hauntings--which Binara blames for the disappearance of her sister. It's time to fight back before darkness takes over her home. What better way than to set a trap for none other than the Black Prince?

Goose's Thoughts:

Welcome to Week 22 where we are diving head-first into a world of demons, strange creatures, and a really head-strong and determined character!

Su is able to paint a really vivid picture of this world from the very opening paragraph of this story. The amount of detail that has gone into this story is amazing and it's clear just how much love Su has for the story she's telling. Her descriptions throughout are incredible and there is a real spooky atmosphere being conjured up just with words. You can picture everything as it happens and the whole story just leaps off the page.

I love how much thought, care, and attention Su has put into the story she's telling. It's clear she cares a lot about telling this story and using real, Sri Lankan folklore story that must of us have probably never heard of. There is just so much detail going into the lifestyle, the folklore, and the whole concepts of ghosts and demons within that folklore. The additional care and attention that has gone into the story really adds to the realism of it and makes it an even better story.

For a main character, Binara is certainly an interesting one. She's a very head-strong character who is more than willing to throw herself into dangerous situations even though she doesn't know what to expect. Binara really isn't much of a team player which leads to a lot of interesting conversations, and reactions, to those around her. What I love is that she has this head-strong nature, but there is still a lot fear in her and her internal narrative which proves she does feel fear and isn't as cold as she seems.

If you're looking for something dark, spooky, full of weird demons, and based off Sir Lankan culture, this is definitely the story for you. The descriptions alone makes it all worth it, but the love and care that has gone into this story just adds to the brilliantness of it all. There's a lot of drama, a lot of questions to be answered, and a seriously killer heroine.

Thank you for writing such an amazing story, Su!
