"Wait here we will be right back." Paddy whispered. They both shifted into hawks and flew towards the river then back over us to the French Army.

They came back flying down the river towards our position. They crawled into their clothes then shifted. "Sir they have only a small group of soldiers. The men you see shooting at us are the only ones here, they have no replacements." Paddy told him.

"Thank you Pvt. Riley." Commander Comerford said smiling.

It took a little while for the shooting to slow down to a single musket. The Commander had some of us work our way around him until he was surrounded. We discovered they were a small squad on their way to regroup with the main part of the French Army in Montreal. The soldier died from his wounds shortly after.

Commander Comerford had the shifters check to see where the rest of the French Army was. They returned with news that they were heading towards us.

"They will be here in a couple of days Sir." Paddy told him.

"We need a better place to defend ourselves." The Commander whispered

"Would an island be better Sir?"

"An island Paddy?" Commander Comerford looked at Paddy then smiled. "It would be better than being exposed the way we are."

"The land on the other side of the river is the start of an island."

"Excellent. Let us bring everyone across." Commander Comerford said excitedly.

We quickly put together our rafts then loaded the wagons. We poled across the river and setup camp not far from the riverbank.

Then we waited for the French Army to showup. They were there two days later. They could see that there had been a small battle along the river.

Scott translated what the French officers were saying while we watched from the trees across the river. "The Commander has called for all his scouts." We watched a small group of men surround an officer.

"He wants them to find the soldiers that were in this battle." Scott turned to us. "He wants to know what happened to the dead."

We had buried the dead where they had fallen.

"One of the scouts told the officer that there was a lot of freshly turned earth along the tree line."

"He wants some of the men to dig up one of the spots." Scott translated.

"Well he will only find his men. We buried our dead over here." Commander Comerford said.

We had three dead and twenty injured.

"Mon Dieu." We heard the men digging up one of their soldiers. "Captaine."

"They have discovered one of their own." Scott said.

They started scrambling around and digging up more of their dead.

"They can not find any of our dead." Scott chuckled.

"Arête!" The French Captain yelled for his men to stop.

"There is no English here. Do not waste your energy."

He has sent his scouts out to find us. One had come back. "The English left on boats and went up river." The scout told him.

"How will we ever catch them?" The French Captain exclaimed.

As soon as it was dark we climbed out of the trees and went back to the camp John had made a smokeless fire way over on the other side of the island. He had everyone fed before midnight.
